Halloween pictures wanted: Show us your best moments!

On October 31, 2025, the spooky and beautiful festival of Halloween will be celebrated again in northern Germany. The annual tradition, which dates back to the pre-Christian Celtic harvest festivals, invites young and old to dress up in scary costumes, delight the neighbors with trick-or-treating or get creative with festive activities themselves. The roots of Halloween are rich, linking to the festival of Samhain, where the souls of the departed were honored. The celebrations begin on the eve of All Saints' Day (November 1) and are popular worldwide, especially in Western cultures.

The North German population is cordially invited to send in their best Halloween photos to the Nordsee-Zeitung on this special day. Whether alone, with family or friends - everyone is invited to share pictures of frenetically wandering children hunting for sweets, magnificently carved pumpkins or great fancy dress. Activities by clubs, daycare centers or schools that would like to actively participate in the festival are also welcome as particularly eventful highlights. Nordsee-Zeitung reports that the best submissions will be published on the website over the weekend to create a gallery with regional Halloween moments.

Submit pictures and participate

Anyone who would like to take part is asked to send an email to online-redaktion@nordsee-zeitung.de with the subject “Halloween 2025”. The first and last name as well as the place of residence should not be missing. The deadline for entries is Saturday, November 1st at 11 a.m.

Halloween is not just a festival for dressing up and collecting candy, but also has deeper cultural roots. Creep culture, lighting bonfires, and trick-or-treating are just a few of the customs that emerged from this story. Many families take the opportunity to celebrate together, watch scary films or surprise the neighbors with homemade decorations.

Religious perspectives and traditions

Despite this colorful hustle and bustle, there are also different perspectives on Halloween. Some religious groups, including certain Christians, oppose the festival because they associate it with pagan customs. The Bible does not directly address Halloween, but there are ethical principles that encourage many to stay away from dark practices. BibleInfo refers to passages that can stimulate an examination of the cultural roots and the consequences of the celebration.

Traditions surrounding Halloween have changed over time. Originally, disguises helped protect people from evil spirits, while collecting “soul cakes” served to honor the deceased. Nowadays it's all about fun and community, even if many don't want to forget the historical roots.

With this in mind: Have fun celebrating, and don't miss out on sharing your best Halloween moments with the Nordsee-Zeitung!
