Novo Bremerhaven: New Center combines youth hostel and library!
The city of Bremerhaven is facing an exciting new chapter! Mayor Melf Grantz has officially announced the start of the “Novo Bremerhaven” construction project, which should not only enliven the city center, but also want to create a place of encounter for all generations. The feasibility study, which was developed by the municipal housing company (Stäwog) in collaboration with specialist advisors, architects and structures, shows a promising concept that is supposed to address both Bremerhaven and visitors. "The project is a real step into the future," says Grantz. The innovative combination of German youth hostel and city library is particularly highlighted under one roof, which is to be accommodated in a six -story building.
A special feature of "Novo Bremerhaven" is that the first three floors will house public areas, including a youth hostel and a city library. The upper floors are intended for the overnight rooms of the youth hostel. Light -flooded rooms, a atrium and a city balcony that should ensure a pleasant ambience are planned. Mayor Torsten Neuhoff emphasizes that this project is about opening old structures and revitalizing the city. The feasibility study also includes the development of an attractive connection between Havenwelten and the city center, which promotes sustainable urban development. "We want to create a good place for everyone," says Neuhoff. The first cost estimate for the overall concept amounts to around 75 million euros. These costs are to be refinanced as part of 30-year rental contracts with the city library and the German Youth Hostel Bergswerk (DJH). The annual costs for the new building are estimated at around 1.57 million euros, although the rental income of the city library has not yet been included. One advantage of planning is that the investment costs are considered to be justifiable compared to a model with private investor, which makes the project financially portable. The final decision on the project is expected in April 2027 and if the situation is positive, the construction could begin immediately, with a planned completion by the end of 2029. This was also discussed in the comprehensive feasibility study, which has been developed by workshops and group meetings since the end of 2024. As part of the project, social sustainability is also paid to, which is of increasing importance in today's urban development. In view of the growing urban population that urges good access to living space, education, health and mobility, such initiatives are essential. A well thought -out concept such as "Novo Bremerhaven" could offer an exemplary framework to meet the current and future social requirements. The collaboration of the city library and the DJH is intended to promote values such as equal opportunities, inclusion and sustainability, and thus offers a solid basis for the sustainable city design of the coming years.
