Kaisen Campus: New education center opened for Huckelriede!

The Kaisen Campus in Bremen-Huckelriede opened its doors on October 10, 2025 - and the whole quarter earlier than planned! The ceremonial handover of the keys was attended by, among others, Finance Senator Björn Fecker, Claudia von Zmuda, the head of the Helene Kaisen primary school, and Oliver Seipke, the director of the Wilhelm Kaisen high school. The project, which costs around 62 million euros, not only promises additional places for students, but also a real benefit for the community.

The newly built three-class all-day primary school was originally supposed to be completed later, but the project team was distinguished by its rapid implementation. The Kaisen Campus is not just a school; it is a cross-age learning, living and working place for over 1000 people. The primary school is designed for around 300 children and offers numerous activities. This also includes a modern community center with a large cafeteria and a kitchen that can handle up to 800 meals per day - a real benefit for the district, which can only welcome this infrastructure.

Space for movement and community

The Kaisen Campus is not only a place for learning, but also for meeting people. Particular attention is paid to the new two-way sports hall, which replaces the old sports hall. In addition, the existing Wilhelm Kaisen High School will be expanded from a four- to a six-class facility. These extensions are particularly important because they enable better integration of students with needs in the areas of perception and development.

The development of the campus was driven forward in close collaboration with the Hamburg architectural firm gmp. The four new buildings cover a gross floor area of 10,279 square meters. The communal area between the new buildings ensures that a wide range of leisure and sports activities are available both during the day and after school. There is even a protected outdoor area for primary school students, which provides additional play space.

A look into the future

What does this mean for the districts around the Kaisen Campus? A way to strengthen the local community. The numerous offerings also mean that extracurricular activities that are important for children's development can take place better. The campus is therefore very popular not only as an educational institution, but also as an event location in the district.

Of course, the creation of such facilities is also reminiscent of current trends in the educational landscape. All-day schools are very popular and play an important role in children's development. According to a report by the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Educational Research and Educational Information, high-quality extracurricular offerings have positive effects on the motivation, well-being and grade development of students reported.

The course for the future has been set in Bremen-Huckelriede. The Kaisen Campus will not just be a school for students, but a place where community and education go hand in hand.
