New Frida residential project promotes community in the Hulsberg district
The Hulsberg district in Bremen is changing and taking on the form of a new, communal life. The “Frida” residential project is currently being built here, which is being implemented in the second construction phase of the district. This innovative construction project is representative of a trend that is becoming increasingly important in the Hanseatic city: communal living. Buten and within reports that “Frida”, together with the existing “Karl” building community, is the first of its kind in the district. A total of 35 apartments are planned, ranging in size from 35 to 110 square meters. The goal is a harmonious coexistence in which the residents support each other.
But what makes “Frida” so special? A central aspect is the community facilities that are intended to promote social cohesion. Plans include a multi-purpose room, a communal kitchen and a bicycle workshop. Activities such as a cooking club or a small choir could enrich cooperation in the future. The city of Bremen actively supports this project in order to strengthen social ties in the district. In order for a residential project to develop into a lively community, low fluctuation of residents is crucial. New Hulsberg emphasizes that the building association also acts as the owner of the apartments - in the event of departure or death, the apartment is returned. This concept aims to prevent speculation in housing.
Promotion of building communities
In the city of Bremen, building communities are seen as the key to creating living space that meets the needs of the population. Around 20 percent of the newly built apartments in the Hulsberg district are said to come from these communities. The land price for the “Frida” project was 3.5 million euros, with a price per square meter of around 5,700 euros. This pricing model allows higher-earning members to help financially weaker neighbors, which in turn alleviates inequality in society.
Parallel to the “Frida” project, sales for shared building properties will begin in the New Hulsberg district on October 27, 2025. Loud New Hulsberg Four building plots are reserved for community projects, with the potential for 160 to 180 residential units. This step is a first in Bremen and promises exciting opportunities for those interested in communal living.
Insights into other projects
The topic of communal living is not just limited to the “Frida” project. The Residential projects Bremen shows that there are various concepts that promote tolerant and active cooperation. One of these projects is the “meethouse”, where a lively community life already exists. Seven people currently live here in an environment that supports social and cultural exchange. Completion of this project is scheduled for fall 2025, and interested parties are already being invited to an active neighborhood.
In summary, Bremen is well on its way to promoting community projects that not only create living space, but also social cohesion. While “Frida” and similar projects in the Hulsberg district set the course for a new way of life, we can be curious to see how the dynamic neighborhood develops further.
