Werder Bremen withdraws season tickets from 500 fans – home game misery!

In a recent decision, SV Werder Bremen has withdrawn the tickets from over 500 of its season ticket holders. The reason for this is a lack of use of the cards last season, such as Dike room reported. The regulation, which was announced last year, is intended to make access easier for future season ticket holders and to take into account the high demand for tickets.

In order to successfully obtain a season ticket spot next season, fans must now attend at least 12 of 17 home games. This minimum usage rate is a reduction compared to last year's rule, which required 14 games. Fans contacted who have not reached this mark will receive an email and lose their right of first refusal for the coming season, while the tickets go on regular sale, as shown on Werder website is to be read.

Planned measures for the future

The new regulations for the use of season tickets were created to ensure a fair chance of getting tickets through greater availability. Normally only around 100 tickets are released per season, but thanks to this measure there could be up to 800 new places. “Most of us simply have to make an effort to use the cards better,” explains Klaus Filbry, CEO of Werder Bremen.

Wheelchair users and their companions in particular are exempt from these measures, which means the club ensures that these fans also have equal opportunities. Those who were unable to take their place last season, for example due to illness, were able to obtain a goodwill arrangement in individual cases, reports the Sports buzzer.

Waiting times and number of applicants

The expected number of applicants for the waiting list, which includes up to 15,000 people, is also spectacular. Applications for free season tickets are made via a lottery system, which means that demand far exceeds availability. The process for registering on the list of interested parties is expected to be activated in the last week of June. This regulation could help the club to eliminate the problems in ticket sales and at the same time better reward the loyal fans.

With the new approach, Werder Bremen is entering territory that is not unusual in the Bundesliga. Various clubs have now taken similar measures, but the Bremer Weg represents a clear step towards fairer ticket distribution in order to meet the enormous demand. It remains to be seen whether the concept will work, but one thing is clear: change is in the air and the club has a good hand at meeting this challenge.
