Elbphilharmonie: Gadjiev and Madaras bring Prokofiev to the podium!

There is an exciting event in the cultural landscape of Northern Germany that music lovers should not miss. On Sunday, December 7th, 2025, there will be a special concert by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m Gergely Madaras as a conductor and Alexander Gadjiev takes place at the piano. It will be a remarkable debut for Gadjiev, as he will play Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16, a work that caused some outrage upon its first performance in 1913.

But that won't be the only highlight. Gergely Madaras also gives his first concert at the podium of the renowned NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. The performance is part of the NDR fundraising campaign “Hand in Hand for Northern Germany” and promises an impressive musical experience. In addition to Prokofiev, Ernst von Dohnányi's Symphony No. 1 in D minor, Op. 9, is also on the program. It should be mentioned that Dohnányi was a contemporary of Bartók and admired Brahms. In fact, Bartók was so impressed by Dohnányi's First Symphony that he memorized the score.

Concert venue: The Elbphilharmonie

The Elbphilharmonie, a true architectural masterpiece in Hamburg, acts as the perfect setting for this concert. It stands on a historic brick warehouse, the Kaiser A, and impresses with its modern design, which is reminiscent of a hoisted sail or an iceberg. Visitors should allow themselves enough time to arrive when attending the concert and should ideally arrive at the Plaza no later than 30 minutes before the concert begins. If you arrive late, spectators risk not being admitted, so arriving on time is recommended. Grand and Recital Hall tickets provide access to the Plaza starting two hours before the concert.

The Elbphilharmonie is not only the main venue for cultural events in Hamburg, but also a building complex of historical value. It was officially inaugurated in 2017 and has since won the hearts of many music lovers. Their acoustic design was achieved by Yasuhisa Toyota, the creative mind behind the impressive sound conditions in the Great Concert Hall. With space for 2,100 spectators, this hall is a real treat not only for the eyes but also for the ears.

An unforgettable experience

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra's concert on December 7th is much more than just a musical event; it is a cultural experience that northern Germans definitely shouldn't miss. The hall will not only be a good place for the musical performances, but also for the opportunity to support a good cause. You too can take part in this campaign and enjoy the intoxicating sounds of Prokofiev and Dohnányi at the same time.
