On December 1, 2025, NDR will start the charity campaign “Hand in Hand for Northern Germany” to support those affected and relatives of addictions.
Together for a life without addiction: NDR starts a big charity campaign!
December 1st, 2025 in Northern Germany is dedicated to the charity campaign “Hand in Hand for Northern Germany – Life without Addiction”. In collaboration with the Joint welfare association and five northern German state associations, including Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Bremen, the NDR campaign starts today and runs until December 12, 2025. The main goal of the initiative is to generate attention for the topic of addiction and to shed light on the stigmatization often associated with it.
100 percent of the donations collected benefit the projects of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband. NDR director Hendrik Lünenborg emphasizes how important it is to talk about addictions: “The topic of addiction has a high social relevance and should not be kept quiet.” Also Dr. Joachim Rock, general manager of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, emphasizes the need for support: “Many people need help, especially in difficult times.” A survey by the #NDRfragt community shows that 92% of those surveyed perceive addictions as a major social problem and 86% see them as a taboo topic. Over 20,000 participants give this survey a significant vote.
Donations and campaigns
Comprehensive information on donations and campaigns will be available from December 3, 2025. The campaign is accompanied by the radio programs, television and the online and social media channels of NDR and Radio Bremen. “We want to educate and draw attention to offers of help,” says the team behind the campaign.
If you would like to donate, you can do so via the donation account at the social bank: IBAN DE90 201 205 200 500 600 700, recipient: Paritätischer Gesamtverband e. V. The online donation form will be available until January 30, 2026, and the donation amount will be announced in February 2026.

A special highlight awaits listeners this morning in the N-JOY morning show, which will broadcast live at 6:00 a.m. to provide information about the campaign. Here the topic of “Living without addiction” is further explored and what the campaign means for those affected.
It is noteworthy that this is NDR's fifteenth fundraiser supporting charitable causes in the North. The long-standing tradition shows how important social commitment is in the region and how much it is valued by the population.
