Altona, Deutschland - The construction work for the new star bridge in Altona has started. The first steel component was put together on Thursday, June 13, 2025. The important project of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) thus accepts concrete forms. Planning and approval
The plan for the new star bridge was not created overnight. As early as April 2020, Deutsche Bahn submitted the planning approval application to the Federal Railway Office (EBA). The entire planning process is extremely structured and takes into account both public and private interests. Deutsche Bahn explains that the procedure is divided into several phases from the first draft towards approval planning.

As part of the project, some changes in the area around the bridge must be made. Around 86 trees are felled, but 215 new trees are to be planted as compensation. Action is also announced in the surrounding area: Five buildings and two extensions will be demolished by the end of May to make room for the new construction. The DB guarantees that all nine affected tenants will get new apartments in the inside.
From May 2024, a 700 meter long Kabelhilfstraße will also be built to record the necessary data and power cables during the comprehensive construction work. After completing the work, this auxiliary road is to be dismantled again.
Completion of the bridge
As for the completion of the new bridge, the time frame is optimistic. It is planned to complete the assembly of the bridge by August 2026. Then it is inserted into its final position. The decision for renewal is not only important from a technical point of view, but also in order to ensure smooth rail traffic in the region in the long term.
