On July 7th, 2025 the time had finally come: Ed Sheeran performed at the sold-out Volksparkstadion in Hamburg and attracted 60,000 enthusiastic fans. This event was part of his large “+-=÷x” tour, which is characterized by a total of 186 stops. Fans from all over Germany came to be there live and the atmosphere was a unique experience. Again NDR reported, the stadium was transformed into a kind of large meeting place that brought together the music and the energy of many people looking for home.

Sheeran opened his rousing show with the emotional song “Castle on the Hill”, which is not only about his home town of Framlington, but also immediately captivated the audience. The use of a 360 degree stage and loop station allowed him to accompany himself to his own sounds. Mind you, despite the huge number of fans, the concert was so intimate that everyone felt like they were close to the action.

An unforgettable evening in the Volkspark

Audiences could expect a minimalist stage show that featured lights, lasers and occasional pyrotechnics. Sheeran wore a “Hamburg” shirt, which immediately made a reference to the city. The concert lasted two and a half hours and was peppered with hits from various albums, including “The A Team” and the new catchy tunes “Sapphire”, “Old Phone” and “Azizam”. This resulted in a colorful mix that delighted both new and old fans. The Rolling Stones states that the set included an impressive list of songs that were perfected throughout the evening.

It was a challenge for the venue as the construction work on the Elbe Tunnel was taking place parallel to the concerts. Fortunately, the closures were lifted again on Sunday evening, so the journey for fans went much more smoothly than initially feared.

The final preparations and support

Demand for tickets was already huge in advance. A total of eight shows in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Düsseldorf were planned for the tour, and many were quickly sold out. How tickets-aktuell.de addresses, over 100,000 tickets were sold for the Hamburg dates alone, which impressively demonstrates the artist's popularity. Fans who didn't manage to get a ticket were able to resort to the secondary market, where prices varied greatly depending on what was on offer.

Getting to the shows was well organized: the S-Bahn stations Stellingen and Eidelstedt, as well as Othmarschen, offered convenient connections. In addition, the number 22 buses to Schnackenburgallee were a popular route for many concert goers. It was advisable for drivers to use the HH-Volkspark exit on the A7/A23.

The show was rounded out by impressive support acts like Tori Kelly and Myles Smith, who took the stage at around 6 p.m. Ed Sheeran himself took the big stage around 9 p.m. and held his audience in his hands for the rest of the evening. The concert ended with a peaceful conclusion and everyone present could go home with unforgettable memories.

The next stop in Düsseldorf is already in the starting blocks. After the resounding enthusiasm in Hamburg, expectations for the upcoming performances are immensely high.
