HSV Hamburg starts a challenging season without Tissier!

The new handball season is just around the corner and HSV Hamburg started preparations for the 2025 season on Monday. There are some changes in the team this season that could affect the future of the club. In particular, Leif Tissier's move to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf leaves a gap in the squad that now needs to be closed. Coach Torsten Jansen is faced with the challenge of finding a new playmaker for the central backcourt in order to reposition the team and remain competitive.

In order to fill this gap, HSV Hamburg has already signed two new signings with the transfer of Elias Kofler from 1. VfL Potsdam and Nicolaj Jörgensen from Denmark. Moritz Sauter will also take turns directing the game next season. The Hamburg team has brought a total of five players into the team so far and are looking for further talent to strengthen the group. Sports director Johannes Bitter emphasizes that although they don't want to set ambitious goals, they definitely want to keep their distance from the relegation zone.

Preparation and challenges

Preparation for the new season could be crucial. “We only have six weeks to get together as a team,” explains Bitter. The squad has shown a downward trend over the last two years with final table positions ranging from 14th to 10th. It's important to find a pacemaker and idea provider in the backcourt who can be quickly integrated into the team. Jansen attaches great importance to team solidarity – a necessity, especially in a time of upheaval.

The first games will put the experts and fans to the test. The season opener will take place on August 31st in Stuttgart, followed by the first home game against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, where they will then face Tissier. Bitter describes last season as outstanding with 15 wins in 34 games and hopes that the team can perform similarly well.

Transfers in the handball Bundesliga

But the challenges don’t stop at HSV Hamburg. There are also many transfers throughout the league that can change the structure of the competition. While some teams like Bergische HC and GWD Minden welcome new players, others have seen departures that could change the dynamics of the league. For example, GWD Minden has upgraded with the additions of Malte Donker and Daniel Astrup Pedersen, while Frisch Auf Göppingen is also setting the course for a successful season with several new additions.

In this regard, it remains to be seen how HSV Hamburg will manage to bring a breath of fresh air into the game with the new players and whether they will have to fight for the top places or rather against relegation. It's an exciting time for handball fans who are looking forward to developments in the sport. The following applies: the right mix of experience and new talent could make the crucial difference.
