Bayern starts against third division team: DFB Cup draw ensures excitement!
Football fans can look forward to exciting duels! Today, June 16, 2025, the draw for the first round of the DFB Cup was carried out and the pairings have been determined. The draw took place in a special setting at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, where the 100-meter sprinter Owen Ansah drew the lots. And the encounters are anything but boring!
FC Bayern Munich, which is at the top of the list of German football greats, faces third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden in its first game. The team from Munich has not won the cup since 2020 and had to admit defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 last season, but the motivation will be high to show what they are made of, especially against a lower-class opponent. The games are scheduled for August 26th and 27th, as Bayern have to compete in the Supercup on August 16th.
Great games for Borussia Dortmund and Co.
But Bayern are not the only ones who face exciting opponents. Borussia Dortmund will face Rot-Weiss Essen, also from the 3rd league. This will show whether Dortmund can offer their fans an exhilarating football festival. The defending champion, VfB Stuttgart, has to play against Eintracht Braunschweig, while last year's finalist Arminia Bielefeld faces Werder Bremen.
The draw also brought some interesting duels between teams from different leagues. SV Atlas Delmenhorst, a representative from the 5th league, meets Borussia Mönchengladbach. There was also a surprise when FC Hansa Rostock met TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. And the list of matches is long, such as the pairings between Dynamo Dresden and FSV Mainz 05 as well as SSV Jahn Regensburg and 1. FC Köln.
