Holsten Cup: Exciting second-round duels and hot derbies are coming up!
On Tuesday at 5 p.m., the menu sub-item “2nd Round” for the Hamburg Holsten Cup 2025/2026 was introduced on DFB-Net. Just half an hour later, the eagerly awaited draw for the pairings followed, which now paves the way for the second round. The games are scheduled for August 26th to 28th and offer exciting encounters in this popular local cup round. SportNorth reports that defending champions FC St. Pauli III will face Dersimspor II first. In the first round, the Kiezkickers impressively showed what they were made of: they drew attention to themselves with an incredible 21-1 win against Rot-Weiss Wilhelmsburg II.
The men from the Paulianer family already impressed against Dersimspor II last season: both duels ended in victories for FC St. Pauli III (1:0 away, 3:0 at home). But the cup is known for its surprising twists and turns, so it will be interesting to see whether the team can continue the series. In addition to this duel, there are other interesting pairings waiting: FC Union Tornesch II meets SC Victoria Hamburg II, while Altona 93 II plays against TSV Buchholz 08 II.
Derbies and other encounters
What stands out in this round is the scheduling of two derbies, which provide additional explosiveness: Tangstedter SV II plays against TBS Pinneberg II and Escheburger SV II meets SV Börnsen II. With a total of 32 second-round duels, which result in 16 third-round games for the round of 16, this phase of the cup will captivate every football fan.
A look at the semi-final games shows that things got really exciting for HSV III on the last few match days. They won against Altona 93 II 5-2 on penalties after regular time ended in a 1-1 draw. What was particularly notable was that HSV III had to play outnumbered after Timon Engelmann was sent off with a red card in the 47th minute. Despite this challenge, HSV keeper Patrick Tiedje showed strong nerves and saved two penalties.
A warm wish for the finale
HSV coach Stefan Gehrke expressed his wish to face FC St. Pauli III in the final. He is hoping for a real derby that could draw spectators in droves, similar to the women's final that brought 17,000 fans to the Millerntor Stadium. It remains to be seen whether this wish will come true, but the starting position suggests an exciting finale in this traditional competition.
In the great Hamburg Holsten Cup, which brings together regional talent and passionate amateur footballers, fans are once again required to loudly support their teams. The tension is rising and the ball will soon be rolling again in Northern Germany! Further information about the competition is available at Kicker.
