Anklam dance couple shines: silver and bronze won in Norderstedt!

Dance sport is flourishing and is bringing a breath of fresh air in Anklam: In Norderstedt, Josepha Haack and Tobias Krüger, an up-and-coming dance couple from the German dance scene, made a clear statement. Last weekend the two competed in the TSC Astoria Hamburg children's and youth tournament and took home two podium places. They collected important points for their promotion in the performance classes. In the youth class D of standard dances, which includes the slow waltz, tango and quickstep, they were able to secure silver place, beaten only by one other couple, as the Nordkurier reports.

But that wasn't all! The two also took an excellent third place in the Latin dance category, including cha-cha-cha, rumba and jive. With their performance, they catapult themselves further up and show that they definitely have what it takes to assert themselves in higher classes. The coaching team around Anja Schumann, Anne Mengel and Marcel Schumann did excellent preparatory work.

Dance sport and performance classes

How does advancement in dance sport actually work? The DVG (German Association for Guard and Show Dance Sports) divides dances into different performance classes, which are based on a point rating. The procedure is nothing new here: the judges can award a maximum of 100 points per dance, and the total points are the sum of several dances. However, two ratings below the point limit for a class mean a threat of relegation, while two good placements in a season give you the chance of promotion. This means your sporting ambition always remains high!

However, a special regulation applies to children aged 5 to 15, like Josepha and Tobias. You must have between 210 and 249 points in the youth class in order to be promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. With the latest results, Josepha Haack and Tobias Krüger are on a promising path.

The next generation of dancers

Other young talents also provide an insight into the world of dance sports. For example, nine-year-olds Elisabeth Wilhelm and Sebastian Bier from Böblingen/Sindelfingen. The two are trained by well-known dance professionals, Victoria Kleinfelder-Cibis and Andrzej Cibis, who became known through “Let’s Dance”. The passion and commitment of the young dancers is remarkable: They train four to five times a week and have already celebrated numerous successes, including first place at the “Royal Dance Cup” and fourth place at the German Open Championships in Stuttgart, one of the largest dance tournaments in the world.

Overall, these young talents not only show how diverse the sport of dance is, but also the potential that lies dormant in the next generation of dancers. The successes of Josepha and Tobias in Norderstedt are another example that dance sport is flourishing in Germany and also has a promising future in Anklam.
