B194 between Loitz and Grimmen: Two months closure expected!
The B194 will become a dead end in the next two months. The route between Loitz and Grimmen is completely closed due to extensive construction work that begins this week. The condition of the road is alarming: cracks, thinning and patches in the asphalt are evidence of long-term neglect. We are dealing here with a real infrastructure measure that is of great importance for the safety of all road users. This is reported by Nordkurier.
On Monday, July 14, 2025, it was officially said: “It’s getting serious!” The construction work between Poggendorf and Gülzow-Dorf includes a comprehensive renovation of the blacktop, which will result in a complete closure for safety reasons. The area that cannot be used for traffic will be strictly sealed off throughout the entire construction period, as the route is not wide enough to allow partial closure. Construction work is expected to last until Friday, September 5, 2025, although weather conditions could affect the schedule, according to information from Strassen MV.
Detours and traffic information
The diversion via state roads leads primarily via Demmin and neighboring districts. From the intersection with the district road VG8 near Schwinge, the B194 heading north is considered a dead end. Here the L27 is the alternative route, which branches off from the B194 at the Meyenkrebs roundabout and leads via Wotenick and Nossendorf to Wendisch Baggendorf. Speaking of detours: The route between Loitz and Grimmen doubles to almost 40 kilometers, which is the order of the day for many drivers. Some even use the VG8 district road to shorten the detour.
Special traffic control measures are planned for residents in the construction site and in Gülzow-Dorf, which will regulate local traffic. The company GP Verkehrswegebau GmbH from Grimmen will carry out the work, which will cost almost 580,000 euros, financed by the federal government. The aim of these measures is not only maintenance, but also to improve road safety, which benefits all road users.
Impact on the region
A look at the current construction situation in Germany shows that our road construction is facing challenges. Sales in road construction have increased in recent years, but fell by almost two billion euros in 2023. Despite these setbacks, road construction remains a priority investment for safety and accessibility. In 2023 alone, over 13 billion euros were invested in road construction. This makes the renovation and expansion of roads a key issue in infrastructure policy, as Statista has observed.
Other construction sites in the region include the renovation of the Kahlden Bridge in Demmin and the complete renovation of the B110 between Demmin and Jarmen. The constant construction sites are the price we have to pay for a safe infrastructure. Let's hope that these measures will soon bear fruit and we can travel from A to B unhindered again.
