Heroic deeds in Loitz: Residents put out fire before the fire department arrives!
On Tuesday afternoon, a fire broke out in the tranquil town of Loitz, which brought residents to the scene. Around ten square meters of green space on the edge of the L261 state road between Loitz and Wüstenfelde were in flames. But before the fire brigade arrived, the residents showed great commitment: they tackled the fire with fire extinguishers and were able to prevent it from getting worse. Stephan Mielke, head of the Loitz Volunteer Fire Department, emphasized that thanks to the courageous intervention of residents, the fire was unable to spread to the adjacent field. The fire department was on duty with two vehicles and 15 comrades. The entire operation lasted around 30 minutes, which shows how important it is to act quickly in such situations.
What a blessing in disguise for the community! Things recently looked completely different with a house fire in Loitz, which broke out on Saturday for reasons that were still unclear. Flames were raging on the upper floor and in the attic when the first firefighters arrived. The flames were already coming out of the roof and endangering neighboring buildings. However, thanks to quick intervention, they were saved. The affected residents were able to leave the burning building unharmed, but had to look for other accommodation - a neighboring family eventually helped out. However, there was also dissatisfaction: Some neighbors were dissatisfied with the extinguishing work because water damaged their own house. In addition, the volunteer fire brigade's emergency services were massively hindered in their operations. According to reports, firefighters were spat on and insulted while some residents attempted to snatch fire hoses. The Neubrandenburg police headquarters then filed a criminal complaint for obstructing the fire department.
Investigations have been initiated
The situation is complicated by the fact that the burning building contains an empty shop on the ground floor, which was rendered unusable by the water used to extinguish the fire. The neighboring house is no longer habitable for residents due to the extinguishing work. The criminal police are already investigating the negligent arson in order to clarify the exact events and clarify possible responsibilities.
Solidarity in the neighborhood is strong, and the mayor of Loitz has already taken measures to provide short-term accommodation for the affected families, especially those with two children. It remains to be hoped that such tragic incidents will soon be history and that the community of Loitz can learn from these experiences so that fire brigade operations can run more smoothly in the future.
