Jarmen celebrates the title of Municipality of the Year 2025” – a reason to celebrate!

The city of Jarmen has enormous reasons to be happy! Last Thursday it was named “Municipality of the Year 2025” by the East German Savings Bank Association (OSV) in Potsdam. The prize not only comes with a shiny trophy, but also with prize money of 2,500 euros. This is a special award for the city on the Peene, which stands out for its innovative initiatives and the commitment of its citizens. According to that Northern Courier Almost 280 applications were submitted for the prize, which is awarded in the categories of companies, associations and municipalities.

The mayor of Jarmen, André Werner, was one of the founding members of the newly founded association “Kulturbrücke Peene-Tollense e.V.”, which has been actively supporting the local community since its founding on May 25, 2025. This association has made it its mission to focus not only on culture, but also on the topics of health and care for the elderly. Particularly noteworthy are the work that has already been carried out to maintain urban green spaces and the organization of public festivals that strengthen the sense of community.

Club activities and future plans

The association has launched numerous initiatives since its founding. Among other things, nesting boxes were built and trees were planted in the Jarmen city forest, which not only serves nature conservation, but also raises awareness of ecological issues. In the future, the association is planning further offers in the areas of nature conservation, health, culture and political education for young and old. A highlight will be the Beaver Festival on May 31st, where there will also be a health tent for measuring blood pressure and information on preventative care, such as NDR reported.

The secret surrounding the award ceremony in Potsdam was initially not understood by the invited guests - some of them did not know that the award was about topics such as “Municipality of the Year”. A particularly strange incident was that a reporter from the Jarmener Nordkurier was disinvited after agreeing to attend the event, which created additional topics of conversation.

Jarmen in the context of other municipalities

Jarmen is not the only city in the region with innovative projects. The city of Guben, which was named “Municipality of the Year” for Brandenburg by the OSV in the same competition, also scored points with its economic development and active cooperation with the Polish city of Gubin. Guben was able to convince in the location factors and economic development category, which underlines the dynamism of this twin city, as stated in an article by Niederlausitz Current describes.

Jarmen’s award as “Municipality of the Year 2025” sends a strong signal for the region and shows that a lot can be achieved with commitment and cooperation. The citizens of Jarmen can look forward to exciting projects and a blooming future!
