Modern fire station opened in Loitz – a blessing for the community!

On June 16, 2025 the time had finally come: the inauguration of the new fire station in Loitz was duly celebrated with many highlights. Almost a year of construction, which began at the end of February 2024 and culminated in the final acceptance in April 2025, resulted in a modern home for the fire department. In terms of costs, the project is around 4.5 million euros, with more than 3.8 million euros secured through funding: 3.4 million euros from the state and 440,000 euros from the district. The city contributed 700,000 euros as its own funds.

Fire departments from the Peenetal/Loitz district and the twin town of Hiddenhausen were also represented at the ceremonial inauguration, which attracted numerous onlookers. Speeches were given by State Secretary Wolfgang Schmülling, state politician Franz-Robert Liskow, deputy district administrator Dietger Wille and mayor Christin Witt, among others. The mayor was visibly proud and thanked the companies carrying out the work and the administration, namely Ute Krüger from the building authority and Enrico Vogel, the treasurer.

Blessing and new technology

A special highlight of the event was the blessing of the modern fire engine (LF 20) by Pastor Friederike Grube. This vehicle, which is located in the garage of the new tool shed, also had an impressive price of around 480,000 euros. The state and district funded around 365,000 euros, while the city covered 118,000 euros. This not only brought the equipment up to date, but also ensured the safety of the firefighters.

An open day gave visitors the opportunity to view the new premises and find out about the modern facilities. A children's program provided entertainment as did the catering, which was organized with the support of the Protestant daycare center and the Kruckow-Schmarsow volunteer fire department.

Financial support for fire stations

The need for new fire stations and the associated equipment is an ever-present topic in public discussion. Many volunteer fire brigade members are entitled to safe and suitable operations centers, but construction projects often fail due to financial bottlenecks. Building a new fire station, like in Loitz, not only requires a good hand in planning, but also the right funding opportunities, which are available in many German federal states. This includes, among other things, financial aid from the federal and state governments, which ensures that fire stations can comply with legal obligations to ensure safety for emergency services and citizens. The day in Loitz showed that voluntary work and cooperation between municipalities and fire departments pay off. Together, an important step was taken in improving the operating conditions and ensuring the Brandon's availability. The fire department in Loitz now not only has the most modern technology at its disposal, but also space for lively community interaction.
