Neubrandenburg's happy newborns: Welcome, little miracles!

Welcome to the world of newcomers! In the last few weeks, seven little rays of sunshine came into the world and enriched the lives of their families in and around Neubrandenburg. These are the fascinating stories of our newest citizens, who are now making good news in the region.

Elfriede Kaelcke was born on December 13th weighing 4410 grams and measuring 54 cm tall. Her proud parents, Katja and Sebastian Kaelcke from Dolgen, can now be happy about their little princess. Just three days later, on December 16th, Lea Malou Müller was born. At 3310 grams and 52 cm, she has already settled in well in Neubrandenburg. Her parents, Franziska and Ronny Müller, come from the Uckermark.

New arrivals in December

The little stars continue: On December 18th, Emilia Wanda Kuhn saw the light of day. At 2,660 grams and 47 cm, she is a real fighter for her parents, Laura Kuhn and Alexander Pfeifer, who also come from Neubrandenburg. On December 19th, two dwarfs came into the world: Lotte Schuhmann, weighing 3,270 grams and 49 cm, and Helena Sophie Weber, weighing 3,760 grams and 53 cm. Lotte's parents, Melanie Schuhmann and Tim Koch, live in Woldegk, while Helena probably experiences a lot of love with her parents, Elizaveta Tereshenko and Falk Weber from Carpin.

The year is coming to an end, and on December 22nd, Matvii Babenko brought excitement to the family in Anklam. The little man weighs 3815 grams, is 53 cm tall and is looked after by his parents, who come from Usedom. The family of Marianna Cisowski, who was born on December 26th in Neubrandenburg weighing 3520 grams and 50 cm, celebrated the end of the year. Joanna and Karol Cisowski from Neubrandenburg are happy about their new family member.

Birth statistics in the background

But there is also a worrying side to the sweet stories. According to current statistics, birth rates in Germany remain at a historic low. In 2024, the number of births was around 680,000 newborns, a decrease of 2.3 percent compared to the previous year. It is the lowest number of births since 2012, which further increases the pressure on the pension and care system. Particularly worrying is the fertility rate of German mothers, which is around 1.2 children per woman - far away from the conservation level of 2.07 children per woman.

In addition, the aging of society will lead to a birth deficit of around 330,000 in 2024. Even if immigration has brought a certain increase in the population, demographic change remains a major challenge that cannot be ignored ( destatis, statista ).

Given these developments, we are faced with a mixed bag of hope and concern. While the new babies bring joy and life to Neubrandenburg and the surrounding area, the numbers at the national level are an alarm signal for society. It is now up to all of us how we deal with the challenge of the next generation and shape their future.
