Savior of tomorrow: Anklam's youth shows their skills at the DRK competition
On June 15, 2025 there was an exciting event for the young rescuers in Anklam! The DRK youth competition not only brought together ten teams from the DRK youth and water rescue service, but also the children's troop from the Anklam fire department, which was formed under the affectionate name “Peenemäuse”. Enthusiasm and team spirit were at the top of the agenda for the 74 participating children and young people, who were supported by 30 helpers. The event was organized by the supervisor Sandra Stoll and was a complete success!
The participants had the task of proving themselves as real rescuers. Their duties included putting on surgical gowns, gloves and goggles and transporting a “patient” on a stretcher. It was a challenge, especially for the youngest participants, to put on the protective clothing cleanly and correctly. With so much action, no wonder! During the event there was also a delicious lunch in the market square provided by the supply team. Here you could not only recharge your batteries, but also make new friends.
Strong placings and exciting competitions
At the award ceremony, certificates and gifts were distributed to everyone involved, a recognition of the young rescuers' great achievements. The rankings were as follows:
| level | Old | placement | Participant | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 6-9 years | 1. | Anklam water rescue service | 430 |
| 1 | 10-12 years | 1. | Anklam water rescue service | 501 |
| 2. | Greifswald water rescue service | 484 | ||
| 3. | JRK Wolgast | 472 | ||
| 2 | 13-18 years | 1. | JRK Greifswald | 550 |
| 2. | Greifswald water rescue service | 544 | ||
| 3. | Anklam water rescue service | 530 | ||
| Peenemice Anklam | 364 | |||
| Anklam youth fire department | 399 |
In addition to being a competition, the event also promotes the basics of first aid among the young participants, which is especially important considering that everyone should be able to provide first aid. The importance of sound first aid training is underlined by various DRK courses that are offered to all age groups and interested parties - whether for driving license applicants, company assistants or even for those who work with children. The courses cover everything from what to do after a traffic accident to CPR and are a first-class way to learn important skills and how to act in an emergency. Interested readers can find more information on the [DRK] website (https://www.drk.de/hilfe-in-deutschland/preise-im-ueberblick/rotkreuzkurs-erste-hilfe/).
First aid training is also important for volunteer fire departments because they have to meet specific requirements. These include additional teaching units about fire department-specific risks and equipment. The training content is comprehensive and prepares the emergency services optimally for emergency situations. Detailed information about this special training can be found at lern-helfer.de.
In conclusion, the DRK young talent competition in Anklam not only tested the skills of the young rescuers, but also strengthened their team spirit and commitment. A big thank you to all the helpers and organizers who made this event possible!
