Abitur 2025: Celebrate by the sea and the exciting Sellin Festival!
Beach feeling and great emotions in the school hallways: On July 21, 2025, Rügen will shine with both the splendor of the school graduations and the lively atmosphere of the Tag am Meer festival. In Bergen, 76 students from the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium received their high school diplomas today. Between cheering friends and proud parents, three graduates stand out with a grade of 1.0. The entire class passed with a grade average of 2.5, and a total of 99 high school graduates successfully completed school on Rügen. Many of them are looking forward to traveling, training or studying.
And while the graduates plan their next steps into the future, music lovers are drawn to the beach in Prora for the Tag am Meer festival, which took place on July 18th and 19th, 2025. Hundreds celebrated in bright sunshine with a colorful music program that included house, reggae and deep house. Organized by the rural youth association M-V e.V., the festival offers a careful selection of artists to create a special atmosphere. As tagammeer-festival.de reports, the loving decoration created a welcoming atmosphere, while regional delicacies and stands with jewelry and henna tattoos were available for visitors.
Upcoming highlight on the beach
Big names are also taking part in the sixth edition of the festival. Not only visitors to the Tag am Meer festival can look forward to a great line-up; The Sellin Summer Open Air is just around the corner on Sellin beach. The concerts with the DJ duo “Disturbed but Geil” on July 25th, Johannes Oerding on July 31st and “Purple Disco Machine” on August 1st promise a fantastic week. A special plus: the concert ticket includes use of public transport, which makes travel easier for many people.
Looking ahead and challenges
But it's not just the festival landscape that's growing, the focus is also on responsibilities in the social sector. The CDU has submitted a proposal to transfer responsibility for the job center in Western Pomerania-Rügen to the Federal Employment Agency. The reasons for this are the structural challenges, stagnating integration rates and increasing administrative costs. An online user account for customers could also bring advantages and facilitate access to the services.
Aside from the celebrations, there was recently a traffic accident on Rügen in which four children were slightly injured. The accident occurred due to a right-of-way error at the intersection of B196 and Bergener Königsstrasse. Passers-by are now calling for a roundabout to be set up to increase safety at this critical point.
The cultural and festival landscape in Germany is continuously monitored, as shown by the “national cultural statistics”. The importance of music festivals for the cultural sector and how they promote cultural diversity are recorded. Information on this can be found in a documentation on the music festival scene in Germany, which is regularly updated to provide an overview of developments in this area, as kmk.org notes.
With all of these events on Rügen, it is clear that there is a lot at stake - both in the school hallways and on the beach. Rügen not only offers a stage for musical highlights, but also space for social developments and anticipation of the next festival edition in 2026.
