E-scooter dispute in Stralsund: sidewalks blocked and seniors affected!

In Stralsund, the discussion about e-scooters continues to cause a stir. Around 100 of these popular vehicles are distributed throughout the Hanseatic city, and they are always at the center of political debate. The “Citizens for Stralsund” group initiated the discussion by pointing out the problems that e-scooters pose for pedestrians and especially for seniors, people with disabilities and parents with strollers. There is an accusation that the scooters block sidewalks and thereby impair the mobility of many people. Nevertheless, the city has decided not to impose a ban despite this criticism, as only one provider is currently active and there are no noticeable clusters of accidents Ostsee-Zeitung reported.

E-scooters have been allowed in Stralsund for several years, and there are now several providers that offer attractive options. These include Voi, TIER, Lime and Bolt, which have different prices and offers. For example, using TIER costs 1 euro for activation and 0.15 euros per minute. At Lime the price is 1 euro per rental transaction and also 0.15 euros per minute. With the help of a voucher code, users can even test two trips for free. Parking and no-driving zones are also clearly displayed in the app, which makes it much easier to use. According to escooter-held, the most popular providers are TIER and Lime, while companies such as Dott, Bird and Voi are also active.

Culture and events

Meanwhile, the Nikolaikirche in Richtenberg has reopened its doors after being temporarily closed due to cracks in the church tower. A structural engineer confirmed that only the tower was affected, but the nave was safe. Just in time for the apple festival and the Thanksgiving service, visitors can admire the beautiful church again, which will certainly attract many people to the region, like the Ostsee-Zeitung reported.

Another highlight is also coming up: Michel Friedman will give a reading on Rügen on May 23, 2026, after an appointment in Klütz was canceled. Friedman's appearance raises exciting questions about topics such as democracy, culture of debate and anti-Semitism, which are being actively discussed in public. The cultural diversity of the region is sustainably promoted through such events.

Demographic changes

A look at the population development shows that there are different trends on Rügen. While in the north a decline of up to 17.33 percent is recorded in Neuenkirchen, the south is on the rise and is recording increases. The municipality of Lancken-Granitz, for example, can score points with an increase. An interactive map showing population development in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania provides further insights into the demographic changes affecting the region.

The developments surrounding e-scooters, cultural events and the population structure make it clear that Stralsund and the surrounding area are lively and diverse. Stay tuned for more exciting news from the region!
