Protests at Weidel interview: Police initiate investigation!

A special kind of drama occurred during the ARD “summer interview” with AfD leader Alice Weidel in Berlin. Protests from the population accompanied the interview, which took place on July 21, 2025. The police have now initiated an investigation because the protest meeting was not reported in advance in accordance with the Berlin Freedom of Assembly Act. This reports Tixio.

A 64-year-old woman who appeared as a reporter and meeting leader at a spontaneous rally under the motto “No stage for the AfD” was now faced with legal consequences. The police documented the character of the meeting and discovered a closed tour bus belonging to the artist collective “Center for Political Beauty” on the spot. A musical contribution was continuously heard from this bus with the clear aim of opposing the AfD.

Protests and their effects

The entire action, which took place on the banks of the Spree, produced an impressive noise with whistles, horns and anti-AfD slogans. Weidel had difficulty understanding moderator Markus Preiß's questions, which further inflamed the situation. Loud Daily Mirror Those responsible for ARD tried to reduce the noise level, but without success.

The person responsible for the loudspeaker bus, a 39-year-old, only arrived at 3:20 p.m. and claimed that the vehicle had the character of an “independent, spontaneous art performance in a public space.” The police ordered him to stop the noise emissions immediately, which he finally did at 3:30 p.m. In total, the participants in the protest were estimated to be around 40 people.

Reactions and consequences

Weidel himself criticized the entire protest as an attack on freedom of the press and information. Their displeasure about the acoustic disturbances was also shared by a spokeswoman for the ARD capital studio, who regretted what happened. A fact check by ARD on Weidel's statements came to the conclusion that some of her statements were classified as grossly incorrect. This led to wild speculation and conspiracy theories against ARD among AfD supporters, who called for the interview to be repeated.

Although legal action was taken against the meeting leader and the person in charge of the bus, there were no arrests. The artist collective that organized the protest claims no action was taken by police and is now appealing for donations to keep the bus running. The investigation is ongoing and the situation remains exciting.
