Störtebeker Festival 2025: Action-packed premiere delights 8,000 spectators!

The Störtebeker Festival celebrated its premiere on June 28, 2025 on the open-air stage in Ralswiek on Rügen. Around 8,000 spectators were on site to experience the new play “Buyers of the Seas”, which is all about Klaus Störtebeker's heroic saga. Directors Louis Villinger and Cordula Jung brought the dramatic story to the stage and provided plenty of action and emotions.

What can viewers expect? High dynamics through fast-paced action, starting with a rousing bar brawl and a spectacular bombing of the stage, followed by a dramatic fall from a church tower. Pyrotechnic effects, led by pyro expert Fred “Feuerstein” Braeutigam, created visual highlights that thrilled the audience. In the first 15 minutes of the performance, the whole spectacle ended with fireworks over the Great Jasmunder Bodden.

Diverse ensemble

A total of over 160 actors and small actors fill various roles, including Moritz Stephan in the leading role of Klaus Störtebeker. Besides him, Alexander Hanfland also shines as Goedeke and Norbert Braun as Störtebeker's father. The ensemble is strengthened by Wolfgang Lippert, who takes on the role of the bard singer Lippi, as well as Eva GernGroß as Störtebeker's sister Klara and Alonja Weigert as the tool maker Alenia. Also new to the ensemble are Janis Günther, Volker Wackermann, Sebastian Vetter and many other actors who breathe fresh life into the piece.

A very special focus is on the female roles - strong, self-confident protagonists who actively intervene in the plot. This shows that the festival not only tells the adventures of the privateers, but also presents exciting female characters.

Spectacular game cycle

The Störtebeker Festival is entering its seventh season, which runs from June 28th to September 13th, 2025, and takes place daily from Monday to Saturday at 8:00 p.m. The open-air stage in Ralswiek, one of the largest in Europe, is the perfect setting for this exciting spectacle. Over 150 participants, 30 horses and four cogs impressively bring the maritime atmosphere and buccaneering action to the spectators.

The costume department has manufactured around 15,000 costume pieces to authentically represent the time of the privateers. The experience is rounded off by musical performances by Wolfgang Lippert, who presents both new and classic songs, and an exciting supporting program, which also includes the Walter Falconry, which presents the “Kings of the Skies”.

The positive response from the audience and the successful production promise an exciting cycle of games that combines emotions, action and humor.
