The 26-year-old tractor driver did not accept the verdict of the Stralsund district court, which sentenced him to one year and four months in prison for negligent homicide, and has filed an appeal. The court certified the incident as clearly negligent because the tractor driver overtook a group of riders with too little distance. When the horse shied away, disaster struck. The consequences for the driver are drastic: In addition to the prison sentence, his driving license was revoked and he has to pay 1,000 euros to a charitable organization. A return behind the wheel is only possible after 15 months.
