A new restaurant on Rügen: Falkennest” combines German and Polish cuisine!

The climatic health resort of Prora on the Rügen Südstrand promenade has a new gastronomic star in the sky: the “Falkennest” restaurant, opened by Damian Sokołowski. After 15 years of hard work and overcoming many hurdles to make their dream come true, the eatery now welcomes guests with a mix of German and Polish cuisine under one roof.

Why “Falcon’s Nest”? The name is inspired by a special source - a dream of his late grandmother. This personal touch is reflected not only in the name, but also in the concept of the restaurant, which aims to combine the culinary traditions of both countries. “The restaurant should be a symbol of arrival in the new home,” says Sokołowski, whose family originally comes from Żelazowa Wola in Poland.

The culinary offer

The menu at the “Falkennest” is versatile and varied. The highlights include vegan soups, classic fish sandwiches, the traditional Polish dish Bigos, delicious pierogi and tender zander on wild garlic pesto. Prices for lunch dishes range from 14 to 20 euros, and to welcome the locals, there is a 10% discount upon presentation of proof of address.

The small but fine restaurant offers space for 14 guests indoors as well as four comfortable beach chairs for the sunny ones. The business will be open seven days a week until 8 p.m. and also offers takeaway, which is particularly practical for those who want to enjoy the Rügen beach air while eating.

A look outside the box

It is interesting that the combination of German and Polish dishes is not only popular on Rügen. Similar concepts can also be found in other parts of Germany, such as in the restaurant “Küche Steele”, which offers fusion dishes from different food cultures. The owner Dorota, who like Damian also comes from Poland, began her success story in Kolobrzeg and Warsaw and brings her love of fusion cuisine into every dish. Such cuisines can also be found in many restaurants in Austria, where fusion dishes are becoming increasingly popular.

Whether in the “Falkennest” or with Dorota in the “Küche Steele”, this local gastronomy supports the diversity of European cuisines and shows how different and at the same time united food cultures can be. Both restaurants are made from the same cloth and rely on tradition combined with innovation.

The “Falkennest” not only offers a culinary experience, but also an atmosphere that invites you to linger. Damian also plans to be open all year round and offer special surprises for his guests, such as birthday cakes for small celebrations. At a time when local restaurants are in greater demand than ever, Damian's commitment shows how you can build personal and cultural contact with your guests.

The residents and visitors of Rügen can look forward to a new culinary home that not only delights the palate, but also tells stories. How gastronomy develops on Rügen and what is still waiting for us there remains exciting!
