The responsible beach bailiffs in Warnemünde, a town in the Hanseatic city of Rostock, are busy monitoring compliance with the regulations. They play an important role because, as employees of the municipal public order office, they have the right to impose fines. These start at 100 euros, but can quickly go higher for further violations, such as lighting a fire. The ban exists to protect the areas of the beaches that are worthy of protection.

Strict regulations and high penalties

For anyone who still dares to set up a tent, caravan or motorhome, it will be really expensive. In Rostock, such campers risk fines of up to 1,000 euros. The regulations are clearly regulated in the city's beach statutes. The controls are particularly noticeable in the summer months, as the municipal security service regularly detects unauthorized camping.

But the authorities are not only drawing their limits in Rostock. Even in the Baltic Sea resort of Binz, unauthorized overnight stays on the beach can be punished with fines of up to 1,000 euros. Even spending the night in beach shelters or similar mobile accommodation is not permitted and can also result in penalties.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example, fines for unauthorized camping range between 50 and 5,000 euros, depending on the location and duration. The penalties can vary depending on the type of camping, with severe penalties being imposed if reporting requirements are improperly exceeded.
