Anklam's D youth handball players: Strong in the sand despite adversity!

The 3rd Beach Cup took place on July 12th and 13th at the Eldena lido in Greifswald, where the D-youth handball players from Anklam performed. The event, presented by the WGG, offered a sporting spectacle for spectators young and old, with the motto “More than just sand under your feet”. In addition to beach handball, many other sports such as beach soccer, beach volleyball and beach rugby were also offered. Culinary offerings and a supporting program with fun for children rounded off the event, while the initiative to bring your own drinking vessels ensured sustainable aspects, as the Greifswald city administration announced in a press release ( greifswald.de ). The supporters and sponsors, including Stadtwerke Greifswald and Hansehelden Care, also contributed to a successful event.

The young talents from Anklam were able to assert themselves in a strong field of participants and ultimately took a respectable 6th place. They did have difficulties, particularly with the weather and the slippery surface, but this did not reduce their sporting achievements. After two defeats against Stralsunder HV, which ultimately took third place, and the eventual tournament winner Stavenhagener SV I, the first win followed against the second representative of SG Vorpommern. An exciting duel against Stavenhagen II ended in a nerve-wracking shootout, which Anklam narrowly lost, reported nordkurier.de.

Fighting spirit and team spirit

Despite further defeats against SG Vorpommern I and HSV Grimmen, the team was not discouraged. Coach Susann Lange emphasized the strong morale and team spirit: “Everyone had a lot of fun, even if the conditions were challenging.” This underlines how important such events are not only for sporting success, but also for the children's solidarity and personal development. In times when many children and young people increasingly live in digital worlds, sport can represent a valuable bridge to society, as the German Sports Youth also emphasizes.

Sports clubs are essential for the personal development of children and young people. According to the German Sports Youth, almost half of all children and young people are members of sports clubs. Access to exercise opportunities is particularly important to counteract the negative effects of lockdowns and digital isolation. There should be a new start for children's and youth sports in order to promote their exercise and social participation. The demands for the future promotion of sport include, among other things, improving financial support and strengthening sports clubs as democratic spaces ( jugendhilfeportal.de ).

Overall, it can be said that the Beach Cup in Greifswald was not only a sporting highlight, but also an important step in promoting young sports and the community. With their achievements and commitment, the D-youth handball players from Anklam have sent a strong message that goes far beyond the playing field.
