Greifswald's toy shop Flax and Krümel is getting new momentum!
The “Flax und Krümel” toy shop in Greifswald will remain an integral part of the city in the future. On November 2, 2006, Jenny Krohn and Martina Dunker took over the traditional business, which has existed for over 30 years and has undergone several name changes. Now the new owner, Ilona Brzozowska, has taken over the helm after the business ran into difficulties due to the pandemic and booming online trade. Loud Northern Courier, the store may have had to close without a successor, leaving longtime customers worried.
The takeover brings a breath of fresh air into the toy world in Greifswald. Ilona Brzozowska, who worked in the Wallensteinkeller and in a steakhouse before her new job in the catering industry, has a special connection to toys because she has a nine-year-old daughter. The store is scheduled to reopen in March 2024, but the exact date has not yet been set. The store will undergo extensive renovations in January and February 2024. Modernizations are carried out in areas such as radiators, lighting and wall colors. The name “Flax and Krümel” will of course remain the same.
New concept and commitment
The upcoming renovations are not the only innovations that customers can expect. Brzozowska plans to set up small play areas where children can try out different toys. This is intended to offer a completely new shopping experience and actively involve the youngest customers in the purchasing process.
The city of Greifswald and various local organizations worked hard to save the store to ensure that a beloved business is not simply abandoned. The store is located at Langen Straße 26-28 and still has a wide range of products, ranging from baby toys to outdoor items and board games for adults. Brands such as Lego, Playmobil and Ravensburger are among the well-known representatives in the range. The business is also known in the region for its involvement in daycare centers and clubs, where it actively supports children's parties.
Continuous service for customers
Current store hours are Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the shop remains closed on Mondays. Orders are also accepted, so customers have the opportunity to purchase their desired items even outside of regular opening hours. The offer is continually adjusted to meet customer needs.
At a time when many stationary stores are facing challenges, it is a pleasure to see that “Flax und Krümel” remains part of the community and addresses the needs of customers large and small with a new concept. It remains exciting to see how the business develops and what surprises the upcoming new opening has in store.
