Putbus: Young people transform bee carts into creative meeting places!

There is a breath of fresh air in Putbus because three young people have taken on a very special project. Florian, Elias and Hannes show what it means to stand up for the community: They want to transform an old bee wagon into a youth club. They are supported by two volunteer carpenters who lend a hand with their craftsmanship. “We have already completed the roof repairs, the next step is the interior work,” explains Hannes enthusiastically.

But it's not just the expansion of the bee cart that's on the agenda. A suitable parking space is the next big issue. The car is currently with a farmer in the area, but this is by no means intended as a permanent solution. “We are urgently looking for a private person who has space for our bee cart,” says Elias. The city's education and social committee is trying to find a suitable location, but so far the ideas have failed due to a vexing issue: insurance issues for public locations. The young people receive support from a former primary school teacher who knows the city well.

Insurance protection for commitment

In Germany, volunteer work is extremely important and most people are aware that they are making a valuable contribution to their community. But what many people don't know is that insurance coverage can be complicated for volunteers. How on Volunteer server As described, there is subsidiary insurance coverage that takes effect if private or institutional liability insurance is not sufficient. This means that volunteers with existing insurance coverage must first fall back on it.

It could be useful for young people in Putbus to be aware of the regulations. In Lower Saxony, volunteers not only enjoy liability protection, but also accident insurance protection. However, this only works as long as the volunteers do not yet have their own insurance, for example through existing policies from their sponsors. Those volunteers can claim up to 5 million euros for personal injuries and property damage as well as 250,000 euros for financial losses, while statutory accident insurance is not sufficient in all cases and is not always comprehensive, as is the case Consumer advice center emphasized.

The path to the goal

However, the challenge of insurance has not discouraged the young people. Her motivation to find a place for the bee cart remains unbroken. The project could not only offer the villagers a new point of contact, but also be a showcase project for other voluntary initiatives in the region. The idea of creating a space for young people was a success and would probably also bring great benefit to the community.

You too can support the young people in Putbus and support the search! Maybe you have a location or ideas that could help young people achieve their goal. Join forces and win – this is how an old bee wagon becomes a shining place for young people!
