Baltic Allstars with heart: Exciting games and brilliant talents!
Last weekend, the second match day of the state basketball association's over-35 game round took place at the Neue Friedländer comprehensive school. The “Baltic Allstars” syndicate, which consists of players from Friedland, Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz and Ueckermünde, invited everyone to an exciting basketball day. The spectators were able to watch a total of three exciting games that were all about sport and community. Northern Courier reports that the Baltic Allstars met the Lizards from Güstrow right at the start. After a somewhat bumpy start, the score was 17:32 for the Güstrow team at halftime. Despite a strong comeback in which the Allstars reduced the lead to 30:34, they ultimately had to admit defeat 40:50.
Afterwards, the spectators saw the game between the Lizards and the Schwerin Tigers, in which Güstrow held up well until the final phase, but ultimately lost 52:68. The Baltic Allstars then took on the Schwerin Tigers and started the game promisingly. After the first ten minutes the team was in the lead with 17:13, but ultimately had to admit defeat.
Young talent development in Ueckermünde
The Baltic Allstars weren't the only ones who created a good atmosphere at the weekend. The Ueckermünde basketball youth team was also active and took part in the first tournament of the season in Greifswald. SG Greifswald competed there with two teams, supported by two other teams from Stralsund and a team from Ribnitz-Damgarten. SV Unit Ueckermünde started with two wins, but then lost against Greifswald. Nevertheless, the team proved its strength in the end and won two of the following games, including a clear win against the Stralsund Seagulls 1. This means that the Ueckermünde team is tied with the Seagulls at the top of the table, but the basket differences decided against Ueckermünde. Coach Guido Winter was nevertheless enthusiastic about the development of his protégés compared to the previous year.

The Seawolves – defending champions in Germany’s basketball
In the context of the older men, the excellent performance of the Rostock Seawolves is also mentioned. The club secured the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state championship title in 2024 - a remarkable fifth title in a row for the reigning German champions for men over 35. This year was particularly challenging as only three teams played in the Oberliga after BIG Rostock and TSG Warin withdrew. In the decisive game, the Seawolves secured the title with an impressive 77:44 win against SV Unit Güstrow. Before Christmas they had already beaten this opponent 89:75. Thanks to these successes, the Seawolves have qualified for the North German Championships, which will take place on February 24th and 25th in Lower Saxony.
Basketball fans in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are looking forward to these upcoming championships with excitement and hope for further success for the Seawolves, which will only allow the best two teams to take part in the German championships. For all basketball enthusiasts, the development in local basketball remains exciting, be it at the over-35 level or at the youth level.
