Bikers help save lives: successful blood donation in Güstrow!

A sunny day in Güstrow saw the shining eyes of motorcycle fans and blood donors on August 28, 2025. The Northern Courier reports that the bikers from the GreyBulls organized a successful blood donation campaign that took place between the educational center and the old dairy. Among the numerous participants were biker friends, various motorcycle clubs and many Güstrow citizens who put their personal stamp on the good cause.

A total of 63 people registered to donate, 52 of whom successfully donated blood. A pleasing result that Dr. Rodney Price from the blood donation service commented with a smile. “Every drop counts!” said the doctor, convinced of the importance of such actions. The entire promotional period lasted four hours and also offered the opportunity to visit the GreyBulls clubhouse, which many guests took advantage of.

A celebration for the community

Torsten Köpnick from the GreyBulls was particularly pleased with the lively participation of various motorcycle clubs, which made the day lively and colorful. A highlight of the event was the presentation of 38 GDR vintage cars by the Eastern Bloc mechanics, which perfectly underlined the nostalgic flair. The blood donation campaign was musically accompanied by the Güstrow band “Nitebrain”, which created a great atmosphere with a benefit concert and invited those present to celebrate together.

The importance of blood donations cannot be underestimated. According to the DRK Around 15,000 blood donations are needed every day in Germany. Six DRK blood donation services ensure that supply bottlenecks are bridged around the clock. “Blood donors take on social commitment and responsibility” – that is the motto, which is particularly noticeable on days like this.

A smooth process

The blood donation processes are well thought out. The first step involves registering and verifying your personal information. First-time donors must also present their blood donor and accident assistance card as well as a valid photo ID. This is followed by a health check in which body temperature, hemoglobin levels, blood pressure and pulse are measured. Finally, a licensed doctor checks the information and decides whether you are allowed to donate blood.

While the donors lie down on the collection bed, a nurse takes around 500 ml of blood in about ten minutes. After completion, it is recommended to rest for ten minutes while a snack is available to fortify the donors. The medically trained staff is available at any time if you feel unwell.

A big thank you goes to the DRK blood donation service, the donors and supporters of the event, especially to the Güstrower Bildungshaus, which provided the location. Such actions impressively show how important community and cohesion are - for strong coexistence in Güstrow!
