New case on ZDF: Murder of eight-year-old Fabian hits Güstrow shockingly
The case of the tragically deceased eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow remains on everyone's lips. The ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY ... unsolved” will report on the latest developments in this disturbing matter on November 5, 2025. Fabian's body was discovered in a pond in Klein Upahl about three weeks ago. The boy went missing on October 10 when he felt unwell and didn't go to school. According to stern.de, the investigators confirmed that the boy was dumped at the location where he was found and probably set on fire.
A shocking hypothesis is taking shape, as the perpetrator is said to have dumped the body between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day in question. However, no sexual offense can be ruled out, as public prosecutor Harald Nowack stated. While the investigation has been underway for three weeks, it remains unclear whether a suspect has yet been identified. The authorities are withholding crucial information so as not to jeopardize the investigation.
Voices from the community
The dismay at the brutal act can be felt throughout the community. A funeral service for Fabian also took place in Güstrow, where the mayor also expressed his condolences. In these difficult times, the community is called upon to come to terms with the loss of such a young life.
The police have already interviewed numerous witnesses, searched properties and secured evidence. The ZDF program aims to collect clues about people, vehicles and circumstances in order to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Fabian's fate. Information can be submitted to the Rostock police headquarters or any other police station.
The crime situation in Germany
A look at the current crime situation shows that although such crimes are rare in Germany, they are still a cause for concern. The Federal Criminal Police Office's police crime statistics (PKS) recorded a decline of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. However, there are worrying trends: an increase in crimes that affect the population's sense of security.
According to Statista, the overall clearance rate is 58%, which shows that the status of crimes such as murder and manslaughter, which only account for 0.1%, leaves plenty of room for measures to improve security. Despite the 3% decrease in the number of suspects, there is a noticeable increase in the number of non-German suspects, which has grown to 41.8%.
In light of these current crime issues, it becomes clear how important it is to stand together as a society in order to strengthen the basic feeling of security in the community.
