Traffic chaos in Rostock: traffic jam alarm on A19, A20 and B105!

Traffic chaos is the order of the day in Rostock and the surrounding area, as traffic jams and construction sites dominate the streets. As the Baltic Sea newspaper reports, there is current traffic jam information for Rostock, Bad Doberan, Sanitz and Güstrow, which poses challenges for driving. The A19 and A20 motorways as well as the B103 and B105 federal highways are particularly affected.

Particular attention is being paid to Neubrandenburger Straße in Rostock, where extensive renovation work will be carried out in three phases from 2025. The first section, which leads from the level crossing to the Molkerei/Röthsoll residential area, could begin as early as February 2025. Drivers must expect significant restrictions that will last nine months. In addition, the municipal utilities are planning a new district heating supply for several residential areas on this street, which will lead to further closures from February 2025.

Traffic jam and traffic situation

The current traffic situation is becoming even more precarious due to the amount of traffic jams and time lost. The live map of Traffic jam card clearly shows where drivers need to be patient. Here are some recent traffic jam highlights:

  • L12: Stau zwischen An der Stadtautobahn – Warnemünde und Börgerende/Rethwisch, Zeitverlust: 14 Minuten (0.7 km)
  • B103: Stau zwischen Warnowallee und Richard-Wagner-Straße – Warnemünde, Zeitverlust: 9 Minuten (0.7 km)
  • Bergstraße / Am Brink: Stau zwischen Bergstraße / Am Brink und Neubramowstraße, Zeitverlust: 4 Minuten (0.4 km)
  • Unterdorf und Heidekrug: Stau zwischen Unterdorf und Heidekrug, Zeitverlust: 4 Minuten (0.6 km)
  • B105: Stockender Verkehr zwischen Rövershagen und Bentwisch, Zeitverlust: 3 Minuten (1.2 km)

Additionally, there are several closures that further impact traffic flow:

  • K12: Geschlossen zwischen Wilsener Straße und B103 (0.7 km)
  • L10: Sperrung zwischen Westzubringer – Reutershagen und Satower Straße (0.4 km)
  • L22: Sperrung zwischen Rostock-Nord und Niederhagen (1.1 km)

Construction sites and permanent projects

Added to this is the fact that Rostock has to contend with permanent construction sites, which will cause further traffic disruptions in the coming years. The bridge in Rennbahnallee at the zoo is scheduled to be demolished in autumn 2026. The Vorpommern Bridge, which carries the L 22 over the Warnow, also needs to be replaced with a new one. Those responsible are anticipating a construction period of around 15 years.

The data for the traffic jam warnings comes from the “TomTom” service, which generates precise information using GPS coordinates from millions of devices and from numerous official road sensors. The data is updated every five minutes, so drivers can always receive the latest information on traffic conditions.

The traffic situation in Rostock and the surrounding area remains tense. Drivers should be particularly careful at the moment and consider alternative routes if necessary. Because one thing is clear: patience is the be-all and end-all in road traffic today.
