Baker Mahnke starts a million-dollar project: tradition meets innovation!
In Neustadt-Glewe, a traditional business is breaking new ground: baker Thomas Mahnke set a clear signal for the future with the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of his bakery, shop and café. In the next twelve months, a modern bakery will be built on a corner property on brewery street, where a department store once stood, with an investment of 1.5 million euros. Local companies, led by Falk Merten and Harald Grimm, are responsible for the implementation and together they have a lot of experience. This investment not only secures jobs in the region, but also strengthens local craftsmanship.
Baker Mahnke, who can look back on 100 years of family history, already employs 27 people and runs four shops in the region. The tradition of his bakery goes back to 1926 and it has existed under the name Mahnke since 1954. With the new building he wants to further increase the quality of his products, especially rolls and bread. The new bakery will be equipped with the latest technology, which will significantly improve the working conditions for the employees. Mayor Steffen Klieme is optimistic and speaks of a revitalization of the brewery street through this project.
A popular meeting place
The Mahnke bakery is not only known for its tradition, but also for its diversity. Breakfast lovers will appreciate the offerings, such as the popular chocolate croissants and the famous butter cake, which are ideal for spending time in the café. It is open from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays until 1:00 p.m. It is also possible to take away the delicious baked goods, although there have been some unexpected closures in the past.
With a Google rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars, based on 37 votes, customers are satisfied with the bakery's friendly service and delicious products. However, every now and then there was criticism of a limited selection of savory rolls. Nevertheless, the bakery remains a recommendable place for many to enjoy breakfast and spend time in good company.
Challenges in the bakery trade
But the local bakery is not alone: the industry is finding it increasingly difficult to assert itself against large sales platforms and online delivery services. Consumers are increasingly looking for convenience and speed. The small businesses retain their strengths. They offer authenticity, craftsmanship and are an integral part of the community. Mahnke Bakery relies on sustainable practices and uses local ingredients to stand out from the competition. We also aim to have an active presence on social media in order to reach younger customer groups.
Adapting to digital change is crucial to staying in demand in a rapidly changing world. A separate app could possibly become a reality to make it easier for customers to access the products.
The future of the Mahnke bakery looks promising given the challenges and the planned investments. This development could not only strengthen the bakery itself, but also inspire the entire neighborhood by creating a place to come together again.
