A blazing fire caused fear and terror in a warehouse in Crivitz, in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, on the night of November 25th to 26th, 2025. The fire brigade had their hands full trying to get the fire under control. As NDR reports, the flames became so strong that some stored gas bottles exploded. A spectacular operation that had the potential for widespread damage.
Around 120 emergency services from twelve volunteer fire departments actively fought the flames. The warehouse, which belongs to a gardening and plant care company, contained dangerous materials such as turf, fertilizers and of course the well-known gas bottles. The fire department allowed the warehouse to burn down in a controlled manner to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings. Thanks to the quick reaction and preparation, something worse was averted.
Danger of explosion and information for residents
Residents were warned in good time about the danger of explosions. According to Focus no evacuations had to take place and fortunately there are currently no reports of injuries. Operations manager Markus Eichwitz announced that the risk of explosion had now been averted. The fire brigade worked hard to keep the heat and flames under control, with the technical relief organization from Ludwigslust and Schwerin providing support with wheel loaders.
The exact cause of the fire and the amount of damage caused are still unclear. Nevertheless, this event shows once again how important the right equipment and preparation are in the fire protection sector. In Germany there are ongoing discussions about improving fire prevention and analyzing the causes of fires. Statistics from fire protection FeuerTrutz point to the need to more comprehensively collect and analyze data for hazard prevention.
So it remains to be seen what lessons will be learned from this fire to prevent future incidents. However, residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the situation in Crivitz has calmed down and measures are being taken to continue to ensure their safety.
