Pumpkin feast for elephants: 560 kilos of enjoyment in Platschow!
There was a very special festival for animal lovers today at the Platschow elephant farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Two female African elephants, Sandra and Citta, presented themselves as true powerhouses when they had to crack a huge pumpkin weighing 560 kilograms. The pumpkin, an Atlantic Giant, was donated by Andreas Kiefel from Reckenzin, Brandenburg, and won the prize for the heaviest pumpkin at the pumpkin festival in Alt Schwerin. Elephant farm junior manager Jennifer Kröplin explained that the African elephants can break down their snack with their impressive tusks, while the Asian female elephants Vana and Susi have to use their legs because they have no tusks.
The elephant farm is particularly proud of Vana, who at 66 years old is considered the oldest female Asian elephant in Germany. Susi was also one of the oldest residents of the farm, and together they bring a touch of history and anniversary to the group of animals. There was a great spectacle for the spectators: the feeding became an experience where visitors in costumes had free entry, and the team from the elephant farm also dressed up and lovingly decorated the farm.
An experience for the whole family
With Advent just around the corner, the Elephant Farm is now in the starting blocks for the winter season, which will begin on the first weekend of Advent, November 29th and 30th. On these weekends, visitors have the opportunity to experience the Christmas story together with almost all of the farm's animals. The offer not only promises big eyes for the children, but also a contemplative time for the whole family.
Not only the majestic elephants live in the elephant farm, but also a colorful mix of other animals. A total of seven elephants are waiting to be observed at their next appearance, as well as zebras, sea lions, alpacas, goats, cattle, raccoons, sheep, camels and even a rhinoceros. This makes the farm a real experience for animal lovers and adventure seekers.
While elephants are taking center stage, another type of headline has recently been reported that has caused quite a stir. A Danish court ruled that Christina Block is no longer allowed to see her children, a decision that is irrevocable. However, such news does not distract from what really interests people in Platschow: the joy of the animals and the unforgettable experiences that make up a visit to the elephant farm. Maybe the upcoming winter will even bring the opportunity for new stories and experiences.
For anyone who doesn't want to miss the special moments in the elephant farm, the visit is definitely worth it. The animals not only teach us a lot about nature, but also bring a bit of joy into our dreary everyday lives. So stay tuned because the winter season has a lot to offer!
