Parchim celebrates 80 years of theater: folk songs and family celebrations await!

The city of Parchim is preparing for an exciting anniversary weekend! On September 20th and 21st, the theater's 80th anniversary will be celebrated, in the midst of a historical setting: the city's 800th anniversary. Reason enough for the people of Parchim to revive memories of an impressive theater history and celebrate with music and joy. [Nordkurier](https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/parchim/volkslieder-familienfest-und-ein-besonderer-film-parchim- Feiert-80-jahre-theater-3887038) has already reported that the folk song evening “It can't always stay like this” will kick off on September 20th.

From its beginnings to today, the path of the Parchim Theater is rich in experiences. Founded in 1945 by a group of actors, singers and musicians in the aftermath of the war, the theater celebrated its first performance on July 7, 1945 under the name “Bunte Bühne” with the cabaret program “Aunt Lene – hü – hü”. In the decades that followed, the theater shaped cultural life in the region and was renamed the Parchimer Kreistheater in 1948. Many of the great personalities who visited and shaped Parchim in recent decades only come from the former GDR era - including Horst Krause and Karl Heinz Oppel. Leander Haußmann's unique style is also anchored in the audience's memory here.

Festivities for the whole family

September 21st will be all about family. Under the motto “80 Years of Theater in Parchim – 80 Years of Theater for Everyone” you are invited to a big family festival in the Kulturmühle from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A colorful program awaits young visitors here: face painting, glitter tattoos, bouncy castles and creative art activities are on the agenda. The little artists can also paint ceramics, make buttons or dress up.

Particularly attractive are the tours through the theater and the opportunity to take part in the wheel of fortune run by the “Spot an!” support association. With a bit of luck you can win small prizes. On the theater terrace, visitors can fortify themselves with snacks and drinks and feel a little at home - at the theater brunch in the Mahlwerk, which is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prior registration is required here, so don't hesitate!

A look back into history

At 3 p.m., the entire audience in the theater hall is invited to listen to the speeches and commemorate the impressive history of the theater. This tribute is not only a look back, but also a celebration of the shared memories and the cultural roots of the city. Afterwards, the documentary “Then just go to Parchim” by director Dieter Schumann will be shown, which follows the everyday lives of young actors and offers exciting insights into their lives.

The Theater Parchim, with its merged form as the “Young State Theater Parchim”, is one of the smallest theater locations in Germany and has secured a remarkable survival despite difficult times. Thomas Ott-Albrecht, who has been running the house for 22 years, provides a breath of fresh air and new perspectives, sometimes with a nostalgic look back at the legendary performance of “Kap der Unruhe” in 1989.

With all of these festive activities, the anniversary will not only be a homage to 80 years of theater history, but also an invitation to everyone to dedicate themselves to the cultural roots in Parchim. Things will be hot in the coming weeks and Parchim will come together under the banner of theater to celebrate and remember. Everyone is warmly invited not to miss this special moment!
