Change at the Total gas station in Hagenow: The Gebert era ends!
After 32 years of service, the experienced gas station tenant Steffen Gebert is handing over the popular Total gas station to his long-time employee Sabrina Prosch at the outskirts of Hagenow in the direction of Toddin. This handover marks a generational change at a venue that has been in operation since the early 1950s and is known in the region for its excellent quality of service. VEB Minol, which ensured a comprehensive supply of fuel in what was then the GDR, originally operated the gas station. The site had a different meaning during the Second World War as petrol was sold there before the petrol station was rebuilt after the war and moved to its current location.
Steffen Gebert, who took over the business from his father in the 1990s, fondly remembers his beginnings. In the 1970s he worked at the gas station during his holidays and was already collecting money at the pump. “The gas station was the only one far and wide and served cars, trucks and agricultural machinery,” says Gebert. Under his direction, the gas station underwent a comprehensive modernization with a car wash and a sales area, which further consolidated its status as an important reference point in Hagenow.
Popular meeting place for the community
The gas station has established itself not only as a gas station, but also as a social meeting place, offering a coffee shop and gastronomic options for passing guests. “Around 80 percent of our customers are regulars,” says Prosch, who joined the gas station in 2002. Her commitment and her connection to the region make her the ideal new tenant. Gebert will support her in her new role.
A look at the history of the gas station shows that it is closely linked to the history of fuel supply in the GDR. The Minol brand was founded in 1949 and was responsible for supplying fuel in the GDR until the fall of the Berlin Wall. The company's over 1,250 gas stations ensured nationwide supply, while the “Minol-Oriole” mascot ensured the brand's popularity. In the 80s, the prices for NORMAL GASOLINE at these gas stations were high: a liter cost 1.50 marks, diesel was a tad cheaper at 1.40 marks. Many will also not be able to remember the nostalgic images of gas stations from times past.
The future of the gas station
The takeover by a committed young entrepreneur could set the course for a modern future. Sabrina Prosch comes with fresh ideas and the will to preserve tradition while at the same time setting new accents. “I have a good hand for this company and want to make everything work for the best for our customers and the community,” says Prosch.
With Sabrina Prosch at the helm, the gas station in Hagenow is well prepared for the coming years, while Steffen Gebert's legacy continues to be valued and preserved. It is essential to support those who work in such key locations in our communities because they are not only service providers, but also part of the community and contribute to the quality of life in the region.
