Fulfill wishes: Ludwigslust starts a big children's Christmas campaign!
Advent brings not only the first snow-covered streets, but also many opportunities to make others happy. It's that time again in Ludwigslust today: the DRK children's Christmas campaign “Tree of Wishes” began on November 26, 2025. It all started in 2006, and since then the initiative has brought joy to needy children aged three to ten from low-income families every year. Here, citizens can fulfill their heart's desires at the famila market and choose a small gift for the children.
Visitors to the famila market in Ludwigslust will find a festively decorated “wishing tree”. The children's wish lists hang on this tree as they look forward to Christmas. This year there are over 60 wishes waiting to be fulfilled. The gifts should be handed in at the market information desk by December 10th. DRK helpers then wrap the presents, provide them with small sweets and hand them over to the respective care facilities in time for Christmas.
Experience solidarity and community
It is wonderful to see how the campaign grows every year with the support of various partners. In addition to the famila market, the Dagmar Gätcke advertising agency and several care facilities also contribute to the successful implementation of the campaign. “The second “Tree of Wishes” in the Markant market in Boizenburg is intended to give even more children the opportunity to express their Christmas wishes,” explains an organizer. This initiative not only promotes togetherness, but also brings a little more solidarity into the contemplative time.
It's a similar story in Sendenhorst: On the same day, an Advent bazaar was held in the St. Josef Abbey, where the wishing tree of the FiZ association, a local alliance for families, shines in all its splendour. Until the end of November, those in need can fill out wish cards to receive gifts worth a maximum of 25 euros. This shows how important it is to implement some of the Christmas joy here and to help children in need.
A matter of the heart for Christmas
This type of giving has a remarkable tradition not only in Ludwigslust, but also in many other parts of Germany. Organizations like the Deutsche Lebensbrücke e.V. or Engelbaum are active and collect donations in the form of gifts in kind. Whether it's toys or short excursions - everything is done here to make the lives of children who are not on the sunny side a little better. Especially during the Christmas season, it is important that we support children who are already faced with many challenges.”
We want to encourage you to become active yourself, because every little contribution counts! If you are unable to donate gifts in person, there are many organizations such as the German Children's Fund or UNICEF that support children worldwide.
During the Christmas season it becomes clear that gifts are about much more than just material things: they are an act of charity, community and humanity. So go ahead, fulfill the wishes and make Christmas an unforgettable experience for everyone.
