Shortage of doctors in Neubrandenburg: Mothers are desperately looking for a youth doctor!

In Neubrandenburg, a current problem is causing dissatisfaction among parents and young people: finding a doctor to carry out the necessary youth work safety examination often turns out to be a real hurdle. Again Northern Courier reports, it is difficult for many people to get an appointment with pediatricians or family doctors who carry out these examinations. This is not only confirmed by one affected mother, but runs like a common thread through the entire region. The complaints are particularly widespread in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

A central problem appears to be the payment structure. Many doctors refuse to carry out the examinations because the remuneration for these services is perceived to be too low. As a result, the affected mother receives the same answer from several practices: no child labor protection examination. However, the examination remains required by law, and parents always only have to go through the health department to get an appointment with a medical officer.

Legal requirements and challenges

According to the Youth Employment Protection Act (JArbSchG), young people, specifically people aged 15 to 17, are obliged to submit to a medical examination before starting employment. This regulation serves to protect the health and physical development of young people. The LAGuS states that the so-called examination authorization certificate is required for the investigation, which must be applied for from the responsible registration authorities.

The examinations must be billed accordingly to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, whereby it is important to present the correct documents such as the examination form and, if necessary, transfer documents. Compliance with these regulations is particularly important in a work environment that does not place the same demands on young people as on adults.

Call for support for doctors

The situation now has that too Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians called on all practicing doctors, including family doctors, to carry out these important examinations again. According to various medical reports, the health risks for adolescents should not be underestimated because they are less resilient than adults.

A constructive turning point could also be the revision of the fee schedule for doctors, which is resulting in increased pressure from the states on the federal government. The hope of fair remuneration could persuade many practices to offer the examinations again. In the meantime, the only thing left for worried parents to do is to continue to persistently seek a doctor.

Overall, it shows that the need for youth labor protection examinations is not only a legal obligation, but also an important measure to protect the health and well-being of young people. It is up to everyone involved to sustainably improve this situation.
