Demminer Straße in Neubrandenburg: The most dangerous in MV!

Safety on the roads of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remains an urgent issue. According to a current analysis by Allianz Direct Baltic Sea newspaper Demminer Straße in Neubrandenburg is the most dangerous street in the state. In 2024, there were a total of 15 accidents with personal injuries on this route, including seven seriously injured people.

Interestingly, Hamburger Straße in Rostock takes second place, also with 15 accidents, three of which resulted in serious injuries. Rövershäger Chaussee also turned out to be more than just a traffic accident - there were 15 accidents, but there was only one seriously injured person.

The most dangerous stretch of highway

There are even hotspots on the motorway: the section of the A24 near Ruhner Berge, southeast of Parchim, turned out to be the most dangerous motorway section in the northeast, with nine registered accidents. Across the state, 77 fatal accidents and 838 accidents with serious injuries were documented in 2024, making road safety a serious issue.

What is particularly striking is that only one fatal accident was recorded on the ten most dangerous roads in 2024; this happened on the Rostock Südring. Warnowallee in Rostock, once a leader in terms of traffic complaints, is currently not even in the top 20.

Causes and options for action

Comprehensive data analysis is intended to help make road users aware of risky road sections. However, it remains a mystery why exactly such accidents often occur on these roads. The results of a study in Wismar on Lübsche Straße show that the main accident locations are in four larger intersection and junction areas. But the potential to defuse the critical points is limited, there are hardly any changes that can be implemented - apart from any necessary adjustments to the traffic light switching.

These accidents leave behind not only material damage, but also personal fate. It remains to be hoped that targeted measures and awareness-raising among road users will reduce the number of accidents in the future.
