Fingernail chip celebrates its premiere in Neubrandenburg – the future of payment!
The presentation of a “world first from Switzerland” recently caused a stir in Neubrandenburg: the smart chip that is attached to the fingernail. In the Charisma nail salon, those interested were not only able to watch, but also find out what possibilities this chip offers. It can be used for payments, passing out business cards and sharing social media accounts. Marcel Peters, Sales Director at Smart Chip, presented the innovative product and explained how it works. Loud Northern Courier The event in Neubrandenburg was launched as the first public event in Germany, which was definitely a first.
The technology behind the chip is simple and commonplace: It is applied in just five to ten minutes and lasts about eight weeks. If the time is up, the structure must be renewed. Users can prepare for the procedure in advance using an app and find suitable providers. However, Marcel Peters noted that interest during the launch event was rather reserved. “In Mecklenburg, people are often a little skeptical,” he noted. But the company has big plans: 200 studios across Germany are to be integrated by the end of the year.
A digital companion
Another exciting aspect of the smart chip is its functionality as a digital wallet. It sits small and inconspicuously on the fingernail and cannot be lost or stolen. This has clear advantages: payments are possible without a smartphone or wallet. The chip can also be used at automatic ticket machines. The possible uses are diverse and offer a modern, convenient approach to everyday transactions. How Smart chip explains, the chip can be worn under any nail polish system and is even waterproof and dust-proof. Users can choose from different colors, including nude tones.
The technology also supports connection with credit cards and smartphone apps, with the first partners being Mastercard and Cembra Bank. From autumn onwards, the offer will be further expanded in collaboration with around 30 nail salons, where the chip will be applied for a price of 10 to 20 francs. Payment is similar to a credit card: you simply hold your finger on the reader. Despite these convenient features, there are concerns about acceptance, especially among men who would have to visit the nail salon regularly. Meanwhile, companies in other countries, such as Sweden, are working on similar technologies, such as microchips under the skin.
The future of payments
The introduction of the fingernail chip may have just begun in Neubrandenburg, but the vision is clear: the idea of revolutionizing payment and at the same time creating a modern way of social exchange has potential. How SRF According to reports, research is already underway into other technologies, for example a smart ring as an alternative to a smartwatch. This shows that the innovative power in the world of payment technologies certainly does not stand still.
So the coming months will remain exciting, and perhaps the initial hesitation in Neubrandenburg will soon turn into enthusiasm. Who knows, maybe there's more to this little chip than meets the eye.
