Greifswald shines: 19 meter high Christmas tree erected!
On Monday, an impressive Christmas tree was put up in Greifswald, which now adorns the market square and atmospherically ushers in the Advent season. The magnificent tree, an approximately 30-year-old coastal fir, measures an impressive 19 meters in height and weighs an impressive 3.5 tons. When you look at this tree, you can only be impressed by its size and splendor, which was planted in a front garden in Wusterhusen around 40 years ago. The decision for this tree came from a pool of ten applicants, all of whom were vying for the honorable position of the city's Christmas tree. The installation took place around midday with a crane operated by six employees of Pommern Natura GmbH, who felled the tree on Monday morning. Northern Courier reports on the challenges that arose when transporting the tree. In order to safely bring it to the required width of four and a half meters, it was tied together for transport.
But that's not all: on Monday, November 24th, the little citizens of Greifswald can decorate the tree with decorations to their hearts' content. The children can rely on the support of the Greifswald fire department, which is sure to create a magical atmosphere. Five days later the Christmas market starts, a highlight for the entire city. It opens on Thursday, November 27th at 11am and will be open until Sunday, December 21st at 8pm. Here, visitors can look forward to a colorful hustle and bustle and a wide range of festive treats.
