Lift worth 50,000 euros stolen from Neubrandenburg!
What drives criminals to steal large machines again and again? Many people in Neubrandenburg are asking themselves this question after an eight-meter-long lifting platform with the conspicuous inscription “Gigalift” was stolen from the company premises on Ihlenfelder Straße shortly before midnight on December 21st. The lift is worth at least 50,000 euros. According to Strelitzius it could have been transported away using a tractor, as no other transport options are known. The police are looking for witnesses who noticed the theft or the transport of the stage.
This is not the first incident of this kind in the region. A similar case recently occurred in the Neubrandenburg district of Fritscheshof. Unknown people stole a total of five forklifts there between November 18th and 19th, causing damage of around 250,000 euros. The perpetrators forcibly gained access to the company premises on Gneisstrasse and the vehicles were also removed. The police received the report the following Monday from employees of the company concerned, and the investigation into this particularly serious theft is in full swing. Anyone who has relevant information can also contact the Neubrandenburg police headquarters, as [Nordkurier](https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/neubrandenburg/diebstahl-von-unternehmengelaende-sorge-fuer-250000-euro- Schaden-2066181) reports.
Theft trends in Germany
The alertness of the police and citizens could also be influenced by general developments in theft crime. According to police crime statistics, over 1.94 million theft offenses were registered in 2024. This corresponds to around a third of all crimes in Germany. This shows that theft remains a significant problem. BKA has also found that the number of thefts has now increased again after a brief decline during the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, the statistics recorded a slight decrease of 1.6% compared to 2023.
The detection rate for thefts is particularly worrying. At just 31.4%, it is far below the overall crime rate of 58%. This shows how challenging it is for the authorities to solve such crimes. The clearance rate for residential burglaries is also worryingly low at 15.3%. Despite all efforts, theft remains a popular crime that is constantly on the agenda.
Neubrandenburg citizens are called upon to be vigilant and to contact the police if they observe anything suspicious. It is up to all of us to work together to ensure greater safety in our city.
