Neubrandenburg heroes: Civil courage protects against crime!
An act that caused a stir: three brave men from Neubrandenburg were recently honored by the police for their courageous efforts. This shows how important it is not to look away in critical situations and to actively help. As the Northern Courier reports, Lars Jenjahn helped a 60-year-old woman in March whose handbag was stolen from the bicycle basket. Jenjahn not only showed moral courage, but also acted quickly and decisively: he pursued the thief, caught him and handed him over to the police. The handbag and the cash were returned to the owner.
Enrico Kluth and Daniel Lippert also showed nerves of steel on March 17th when they observed a shoplifter in a supermarket. The 36-year-old perpetrator reacted aggressively and threatened the two men. But Kluth and Lippert did not allow themselves to be intimidated: they held the perpetrator until the police arrived, who also found additional stolen goods on the perpetrator. Such acts illustrate the importance of moral courage in our society.
Examples of civil courage
The police in Neubrandenburg emphasize the need to show moral courage and also mention other impressive acts. In Neustrelitz in March, a 35-year-old man and his 48-year-old colleague observed three suspects fleeing a drinks store with stolen bottles. They immediately spoke to the men, with two deciding to escape while they held a 24-year-old and handed him over to the police. The two escapees were also caught later.
Another incident that took place on the night of August 7th to 8th shows how important help is in difficult moments. In a restaurant, a 33-year-old customer refused to leave, which ended in a scuffle with the police. A 38-year-old from Neubrandenburg stepped in and helped bring the attacker to the ground in order to calm the situation. For such heroic actions, the brave citizens were awarded a certificate of honor and a gift basket.
Show moral courage – tips for everyone
The Federal Police lists some basic recommendations to provide assistance in critical situations without putting yourself in danger:
It is important for all those who intervene in such situations to know that civil courage is legally protected. According to that WHITE RING Emergency workers are protected by statutory accident insurance, even in the event of damage to personal belongings or damage to health. However, permissions must be actively applied for; support is available in asserting these claims.
The campaign in Neubrandenburg clearly shows that every individual can make a difference. Civil courage pays off, and gratitude is one of the best rewards!
