Purple Disco Machine: Insight into Tino's career and concert in Sellin!
What an exciting weekend we have ahead of us! On August 1st, 2025, the well-known DJ Tino Piontek, better known as Purple Disco Machine, will give his highly anticipated concert on the pier in Sellin. The event is part of the Sellin Summer Open Airs 2025 and promises to be an extraordinary experience in one of the most beautiful places on the island of Rügen, complemented by surprising guests.
Tino, who grew up in the GDR in 1980, remembers his musical roots and influences in a recent interview. “I had a nice childhood,” he says, pointing to the formative sounds of Genesis, Pink Floyd and the Puhdys. These influences accompanied him through the spirit of optimism in the 90s, when the music scene in Dresden began to reorient itself with illegal techno parties. Despite the political upheavals, he only experienced many things indirectly - "I was simply too young," he says.
The path to a success story
Although Tino has never learned an instrument and cannot read music, he has a good sense of when a song is really finished. His approach to music production is exceptional and he encourages young musicians to focus on their own style: “Make music for yourself, not just to achieve success.” This philosophy has led him to recognition with a Grammy, which he does not see as a goal, but rather as a beautiful appreciation of his work.
Purple Disco Machine's journey is marked by hits such as "Hypnotized", "In The Dark" and "Substitution" (in collaboration with Kungs). Now his new double album “Club Paradise” is in the starting blocks. This release is a tribute to club culture and nights on the dance floor. The album not only impresses with disco, funk and electronic beats, but also contains exciting remixes and club dubs, including from well-known artists such as Marten Hørger and Erol Alkan.
Artists with heart and down-to-earthness
Despite his success, Tino remains down-to-earth and has positive memories of meeting global stars like Kylie Minogue. “They are completely normal people,” says Tino about his experiences with the big names in the industry. These personal insights as well as his career as a DJ show an interesting mix of hard work and joy in music, which will also become clear in the coming days at the concert in Sellin.
The concert on August 1st will certainly be a highlight of the summer season and the opportunity to experience one of the most influential protagonists of modern disco and house music live. Tino Piontek, aka Purple Disco Machine, fills the dance floor with sounds that make hearts beat faster.
