Renovation of the Neustrelitz townhouse: A new chapter begins!
After years of renovation work in the Neustrelitz townhouse, a milestone has been reached. The smell, which has caused a lot of excitement over the last few years, no longer has any place in the new, newly renovated environment. The extensive renovation, which cost over two million euros, included switching to modern LED lamps, installing an elevator and renewing the floor. This was reported by the Northern Courier.
The planned work is not yet completely completed: Head of Building Nico Ruhmer and his team plan to return to the freshly spruced-up building by the end of the year. For the time being, the employees had to move to other rooms, which didn't make accessibility any easier. “We ask the citizens for a little patience during the move, which begins on November 3rd and should be completed by the end of the year,” explains Mayor Andreas Grund. Meanwhile, the historic red handrail on the stairs remains for monument protection reasons, but an additional support was installed to ensure safety.
Renovation as part of a longer story
Neustrelitz has been a city of urban renewal since 1991. This year the city was included in the urban development funding program with the aim of saving the architectural heritage of the former ducal residence. The special feature of this planned city, which was founded in 1733, lies in its unique, star-shaped structure, which encloses a striking square market square. Loud Neustrelitz.de The “Stadtdenkmal Neustrelitz” redevelopment area covers an impressive 118 hectares.
Over the past 30 years, the urban development funding program has made a decisive contribution to the modernization and restoration of listed areas. To date, around 113 million euros have been invested in the restoration of the historic city center. The majority of the funds come from a third-party financing model in which the federal government, the state and the municipality participate together. What is particularly pleasing is that the population in the city center grew by 13.7 percent from 2004 to 2020, which shows that the projects on offer are also bearing fruit in the long term.
Good prospects for the future
But that's not all: the city will continue to have funding from urban development funding available until 2025, with a current funding notice of 1.034 million euros. The city administration has clearly signaled that the priority is urban redevelopment and will continue to commission numerous projects to improve the quality of life and infrastructure. In addition, the attractive city center with its central shopping facilities and educational institutions ensures that Neustrelitz is also very popular with tourists and companies.
The Federal-state program “Urban monument protection” plays an essential role here. It supports measures to preserve historic city centers and promotes the development of lively places for living, working, culture and leisure. Such sites are not only important for residents, they also attract tourists and thus provide valuable stimulus to the local economy.
So let’s get ready for a prosperous future in Neustrelitz. The fresh wind that blows through the renovations will not only beautify the cityscape, but also strengthen the citizens' sense of community. The next move can come!
