Zierker Straße in Neustrelitz: Renovation completed - now free travel!
The long journey to restore Zierker Straße in Neustrelitz has finally reached its goal. After around seven months of intensive construction work, the central traffic axis that connects the city harbor and Penzliner Straße can once again be used without restrictions. Again Northern Courier reported, both the road drainage and the pavement were extensively renewed. Instead of asphalt, sawn natural small stone paving is now used, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also represents a sustainable solution.
The total costs for the renovation amount to around 870,000 euros. All streets around the market in Neustrelitz were equipped with the new paving, creating a uniform image in the city center. The traffic situation has also changed: at the junction with Mühlenstrasse the right-before-left rule now applies, whereas previously traffic on Zierker Strasse had the right of way. This new traffic route was discussed at a meeting of the Committee for Urban Development and Construction.
Outlook on future projects

This is a project that aims to gradually improve the infrastructure in Neustrelitz. The next construction work will begin on March 3, 2025, as the city of Neustrelitz announced on its website. These measures will be carried out in three construction phases and include, among other things, the barrier-free conversion of the bus stops and the relocation of the main drinking water pipe.
During construction, road users must be prepared for full closures, but residents are allowed to use the respective areas after completion. Another highlight of the planning is the possibility of an Omega variant for the roundabout in order to extend the pedestrian zone to the market. Such innovative approaches are part of the national urban development policy, which has been a driving force for integrated urban development in Germany since 2007.
