100 years of the Ticino marching band: A musical anniversary for the city!

On June 21, 2025 there will be a fantastic celebration in Ticino: the marching band is celebrating its 100th anniversary! Since its founding in 1925, this association has not only brought musical entertainment to Ticino, but has also continually refreshed the cultural threads in the region. The Tessin marching band is one of the oldest in Germany and is proud to have played an active role in shaping cultural life over the last 100 years NDR reported.

The anniversary is celebrated with a large march through the city, in which numerous partner associations from the area take part. The guests include marching bands from Schwerin, Parchim, Malchow, Goldberg, Stralsund, Barth and Neubukow. The Penkun shawm band and the Neustrelitz fanfare band will also be there. This meeting is intended not only to uphold the musical tradition, but also to strengthen cohesion in the region.

Musical program

Another highlight of the anniversary is the afternoon concert by the Ticino marching band. Here visitors can look forward to a varied program. In addition to marching music, the marching band also plays hits and oldies. The mix, which is enriched by instruments such as glockenspiels, bugles, transverse flutes and various drums, is intended to delight both old hands and new listeners.

Mayor Maik Ritter (SPD) underlines the importance of this cultural club work and emphasizes that the marching band has always been a reliable part of life in Ticino. The club currently has 42 active members, a number that has remained constant for years. In the 1990s the club struggled with a decline in membership numbers, but in recent years many young people have found their way into the group and are reviving the tradition of the marching band with fresh enthusiasm.

Commitment to the future

The Ticino marching band is more than just a music club. He is intensively involved in children and youth work and offers trial lessons for children and young people from the 3rd grade onwards. The club wants to promote young musicians with solid training so that future generations can carry on the tradition. Those interested can learn a variety of instruments, including the flute, horn or drum.

The training takes place regularly in the club building Am Rosengarten 11 a-b in Ticino. A look at the training times shows that the club adapts flexibly to the needs of beginners and advanced players. At a time when traditions often fade, marching bands like the one in Ticino are important to keep our cultural heritage alive. Another reason to be proud of this club!

With a colorful ceremony on June 21, 2025, the Ticino marching band will end its impressive century and at the same time open the way for new musical adventures. This is an occasion that no music and local lover should miss.
