75 years of love: Fritz and Irma Glien celebrate their crown jewel wedding!

On September 29, 2025, Fritz Glien surprised his wife Irma with a magnificent bouquet of flowers to properly celebrate the extraordinary occasion of their 75th wedding anniversary. This is a significant anniversary, also known as the crown jewel wedding, and is achieved by only a few couples in Germany. However, royal connections are not just in the name, but also in the value of the 75 years the couple spent together. According to Hochzeitstage-Befühl.de, the term “crown jewels” is a metaphor for the most precious aspects of a long marriage.

Fritz and Irma Glien said “I do” on September 29, 1950 in Granzin. The original date was September 14th, Irma's birthday, but due to scheduling difficulties with the mayor of Muschwitz, the couple had to reschedule. In addition, a breakdown with the carriage caused additional unrest - the wheel broke shortly before the wedding. Despite these challenges, the wedding feast was small and included fresh bread from the village miller and a slaughtered pig.

A life full of togetherness and joy

Today, at the ages of 95 and 97, the couple's family has grown: Fritz and Irma have five children, nine grandchildren and even nine great-grandchildren. The proud family is planning a party with coffee and cake to properly celebrate the crown jewel wedding. Especially in this special time, when the couple have been living in the “Haus Sonnenberg” nursing home in Parchim since 2024, their relationship has deepened further. At first Irma lived alone in the nursing home until Fritz moved in. Since then, the couple has been in good health and their positive development is a heartwarming sign for many.

As part of the celebrations, the couple even received a handwritten letter from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Such awards do not happen often and reflect the high regard that such long-term marriages are held in, especially at a time when the divorce rate in Germany has been steadily falling. This shows that despite life's challenges, there are also many couples who strive for a long and fulfilling marriage.

The magic of marriage

Statistics say that marriage is a tradition that is constantly changing. Information from Statista shows that the majority of people in Germany want to tie the knot. At the glittering weddings, the wedding waltz remains an unchanged element, while church weddings lose importance. In 2023, around 361,000 couples said yes; a sign that the attraction of marriage continues to be very popular.

As Fritz and Irma Glien demonstrate, the celebrations for the 75th wedding anniversary should be individually designed, be it with a family get-together or a small celebration in the closest circle. Personal gifts could be a wonderful gesture for the guests: for example, old photos in beautiful frames or an invitation to visit a restaurant. The Crown Jewel Marriage Anniversary celebrations offer many opportunities to honor the special time spent together.

Fritz and Irma's 75th wedding anniversary will not only be a reason to celebrate, but also a beautiful moment to honor the strength and stability of love. May there be many more years of joy and shared memories to come!
